Great Lakes - Flying with a bike on Southwest. Or maybe a bike shop in Detriot?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was thinking of going to Detriot to do some urban exploration. Have any of you flown with a bike on southwest? how much do I have to rip my bike apart?
My other option is to buy a bike when I get to Detriot. Any ideas where I can pick up a cheap/ridable bike from Detriot?

The Hub is the place to go to buy a cheap ridable bike. Their web site is http://www.thehubofdetroit.org/
You can also get daily rentals and a more modern bike at the Wheelhouse Detroit bike shop. http://www.wheelhousedetroit.com
Myself or one of the many other local cyclists would likely be able to give you a tour while you're in town. You might also consider coming to town during our Tour de Troit ride on September 19th. There's more information at http://www.tour-de-troit.org Last year we had 1,100 cyclists riding through Detroit. It's a big event with great food and beer at the end.
