General Cycling Discussion - Lube and Protection. What do You Use?

I have a New Trek 7100. It has been raining ALOT here in Alabama. So Im sort of forced to ride in the rain. I begin my rides no rain, But before I finish my rides Im riding in the rain. I hear that all Purpose oil is bad choice for lube. So what should I use for Lube and Protection?

Prolink Progold, and Triflow both seem to work well in the rain. These lubes don't last more than 1-2 rides, but it's not that much of a problem to re-apply them.

Hmmm... I could add some comment about waxing that would contribute to a tangent. :D

I use DuMonde Tech and more recently the Tech Lite version. Both work great. The Lite seems better suited for less extreme conditions though. It is however a wet lube but acts a lot like a dry lube.

Here's another vote for ProLink. It's the best lube I've ever used. Oh, and use Simple Green to clean your chain and gears. Cuts through the grease and grime like it wasn't even there.

Hehe, I think waxing does sound like a good idea if it's always going to be raining. Attracts less dirt plus lasts much longer.

I've used White lightning for almost a year but all the wet weather we've had has really played havoc with it. Just doesn't survive the rain or even the longer rides. I switched to their wet weather product, Race Day and I've given up a little of the clean look for a lot longer performance..... but with all these votes for ProLink, I've gotta find some. Haven't seen it in any LBS, kinda surprising.

I looked up the home site for CRC-36, where would you buy this kind of product? It looks like it's used in a machine shop kind of setting. Does it last in the rain? What kind of environment do you ride in?

It is an industrial product, but most of the auto parts stores around here cary it. I buy it at a local hardware/lawn mower shop. It is rated by the USDA for use in/on food processing equipment. It takes longer to dry than most of the bicycle specific products, but I also don't get near the build up that I got in the past with WL or Race Day. This is also in a spray can, liquid form that can penetrate the links very well.
As far as in the rain goes? I,m sort of a "fair weather" rider, and I don't ride mountian bikes on trails. So it may not be a good option for the most extream conditions. I have ridden in the rain a few times and it didn't seem to wash off to the point of chain making noise or anything like that, but I do reapply lube after nearly ride on my road machine. On my commuter I use it once a week or so.

BTW, the store I buy this from uses it on high end guns. Many of there shot guns are used by waterfowl hunters. These guns get more abuse than almost any firearm outside of the military. I figured if it was good enough for an $1800 shotgun, it was good enough for my bike. :D
