Fifty Plus (50+) - Coreg

Anyone with experience with this blood pressure medication? Works well on BP, but also keeps heart rate way down. Almost impossible to get Hr over 100 now. Prior to medication, I'd work out in the 120-140 range regularly.
My question is whether aerobic exercising while keeping HR down artificially, actually improves heart health. Don't you need a elevated HR to derive benefit?

I am taking Carvedilol (generic for Coreg) 6.25 mg 2x daily. I haven't found that it severely keeps my heart rate down while working out. I could certainly go up over 140, but unfortunately I haven't really tested it lately because about two months ago I developed atrial fibrilation while riding (had to be electro-cardioverted in the ER) and subsequently had two further episodes (both while riding -- these I was able to get out of on my own). As a result, I've been deliberately keeping my HR below about 110 (which means riding on my indoor trainer). Above 110 and I feel like I'm flirting with another a-fib episode. My cardiologist says the Carvedilol should help prevent the a-fib episodes. I don't think the beta blocker will cause your aerobic workouts to be counter-productive or hurt you in any way.

In summary, so you don't have to read the whole thread, I finally chose to have an ablation from Dr. Andrea Natale, at the time associated with the Cleveland Clinic - the procedure was at Marin General Hospital in Marin County, near San Francisco.

Dr. Natale, world-renowned electro-cardiologist/physiologist, is now in Texas.
