I just finished building up a bike. On all my bikes I only use Cinelli Model 66 bars (26.4 which are getting harder to find at a decent price) and either Cinelli X/A or 1A stems. On this bike I'm using a 1A. I usually initially torque the handlebar binder bolt to 150 in/lbs. If I get any slipping, I bump it up to 160 and I've never had any bar slip at that torque (I'm a light rider 5'10'' 140-145 lbs. and a spinner..so I don't put too much stress on the bars.). On this particular bike, I'm up to 190 in/lbs. I've read a few places on-line that you can go as high as 200. Is this true? I'm starting to worry. I don't need my handlebar binder bolt to snap during a ride. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My research points from about 150-180 in/lbs for forged stems. I went up about 160 on my Nitto. 190 Seems a bit high, but IMHO, not dangerously high.

It is what it is. Just be sure that the clamp and bar are free from old lube. It doesn't take much. Brake cleaner will get rid of anything on there without leaving a residue, but be sure you don't get any on the paint, etc.

And think about buying a spare bolt or two for your bag.

What's good for the binding bolt is not necessarily good for the handlebar.

Both bar and stem are NOS. Clean and bone dry.
A spare bolt in my bag won't help when I break my teeth on the stem after the bolt snaps.
