Northern California - Who's riding what/when?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I figured the only way to get back on the bike is to sign up for an event and train for it. I plan to pay way in advance hoping that will motivate me since I hate losing money. I am planning to do the Harvest metric ride in October. Is anyone else doing that event? Which event(s) do you have your eye on?
I'm doing 3 more this year.
Tour of Napa century in August
Knoxville Double in Sept.
Death Valley Double in October.
I don't know anyone else doing DV, so if it's lonely desert for 200 miles I hope to at least have a good peyote-ish spirit voyage of isolation/dehydration.
I am doing the Mt. Diablo Challenge this October. I think I few others from BF are doing the same. Diablo Challenge (http://www.savemountdiablo.org/Bike%20Challenge/MountDiabloChallengeHome.htm\)
I'm not doing any of those types of rides, though there is a possibility that I'll do Levi's Grand Fondo (sp?). But it's remote.
I just plan rides for the weekend and ride some during the week to stay in something resembling a fit state.

Slow-poke ride this weekend
Co-Motion Classic, August
Folsom Cycle-bration, Sept., something tandem-ish
Foxy's Fall Century, Oct.
Those are the tandem events. I'll be racing the Diva in August and early Sept. too, punctuated by group and fun rides in between.

death valley double in october.

wind !!!!!
I'll bring a sail and tack into it. Or try to hang with whatever pacelines can be found.
I was thinking about the doubles while I was climbing Carson pass. I was trying to figure out how in the world I'd cover 200 miles in a day, when I was at mile 110 8:45 or so into the ride.
Sure, there's less climbing, but not that much less. I still haven't figured it out.
In October I'll be hurting for sunlight though. Should be a great Sunrise->Sunset with dark for a few hours on both sides type of ride.
I'm doing the Mt D challenge aswell, but how about coming out to play on July 25 for the Norcal KOM version?

I'm riding in the Tour de Peninsula on August 2, 2009. Their longest route is a metric century. The last TdP attracted 2000+ riders and the routes had plenty of rest stops. This was a lot of fun.

Doing Tour of Napa on 8/16 (only the 35 miler with my wife and sis-in-law). I'd love to do Foxy's but can't find any registration info on this year's ride.

The website for Foxy's says registation will open in late August.
I'm giving seriou thought to going for the 100mi version of this. With any luck, I'll come to my senses before that. It's been a few years since I managed a full century . . . . .
I'll probably go for the Tour of Napa 100k - it gets pretty hot there in August, and Ink Grade about killed me couple years ago, but it is beautiful country and a well-run ride.

Hey, when did they add a semi-serious, Metric Century route to this? I rode this a couple times back in the late 1990s, and the longest route was 30 pretty darned easy miles. I think I might just do this one, since it starts only a couple miles from my front door and covers some of the roads I ride on Sundays anyway.

My wife and I will be doing the 100k Tour of Napa Valley. It will the first organized ride for the both of us. Hopefully my wife will be able to make it over the hills, she's not a quitter fortunately. We'll be riding the next few weekends to get ready.

Wolfpack from NC is coming in to do this ride, so we're doing it as well. Any NorCal-ers want to have a pre-ride par-tay at Chez Cgallagh/RR? I'll try not to break a rib this year. :innocent:

Which ride are you referring to after the par-tay, Deb?
I did the 100k Tour of Napa in 2007. It was hot but luckily I was in way better shape so I was able to make it up Ink Grade. If I do it this year in the shape I'm in, I'd have to dismount and catch my breath. Guess I'll be seeing you folks at the start. We'll probably get on our bikes right at 8AM for the 35 miler..
The events I have left this year:
Mt Tam Double
Knoxville Double
Furnace Creek 508 (as part of 4 man team)
Fall Death Valley Double
I don't know anyone else doing DV, so if it's lonely desert for 200 miles I hope to at least have a good peyote-ish spirit voyage of isolation/dehydration.
I'll be out there too. Say hi as you go by. I'll be in my Davis Double jersey on a green Trek 520.
I was thinking about the doubles while I was climbing Carson pass. I was trying to figure out how in the world I'd cover 200 miles in a day, when I was at mile 110 8:45 or so into the ride.
I find doing doubles much more easy than Death Ride. I don't climb well so DR is just a slog for me. But if the climbing is 8000 feet or less per 100 miles I seem to be able to go forever with very short breaks and a rolling average of about 14 mph.

You're doing the 2 doubles I'm doing and avg. 14mph? Let's be friends. I don't know anyone else doing either.

That'd be great. We'll PM each other before Knoxville.
I'm taking my family to DV early but I have a friend in the Bay Area looking for someone to share driving if you want me to hook you two up. He's just doing the century.

I'm doing at least 5 more centuries, one for each remaining month in 2009. Most of these will be self-supported.

I just looked up and realized I need to sign up for this still!! I will probably try the metric although it could end up very badly as I'm still in rather poor shape considering the time of the season.
Eitherway I plan on being there though, I like the idea that it benefits the parks foundation, and bicycle sunday.. both good causes in my opinion, especially the parks, they'll need all the help they can get going forward.
I was at the last TdP and it was a little scary at times with all of the mixed ability around, however that also made it fun :)
anybody else for this one?

The metric was just added this year. I'm kinda excited about this because I plan on just taking my time this year instead of trying to go as fast as some other riders did causing me to drop a friend of mine on the one big climb. We'll be doing the metric and I promised to wait up for him this year. Except now I think he is much stronger than me since I've been so stagnant this year.

Deb,
Do you have an idea of the total elevation gain for the Foxy's Fall 100 miler? I am planning to do the Harvest ride the first weekend in Oct. This looks like a good 2nd Oct ride!

I've got the following on the horizon:
Mt. Shasta's Super Century (135mi/16,500' climbing) on 8/2
Crater Lake Century on 8/15
Auburn Century (Lone Ranger Route for 140 mi/15,000' climbing) on 9/12
Tahoe Century on 9/26
Konacti Challenge on 10/3
Some other potential organized rides and local unsupported centuries once the organized ones end for the Fall/Winter.

Hey NorCal cyclist, do you know of routes in Redding that one could ride in an hour or so on a road bike? I go to Redding a lot for work and would like to bring my bike once in a while. Just getting tired of the fitness room at the Hilton Garden Inn. Thanks.

I'm signed up for the Death Valley Double as my first double. I know of one other friend doing the double (although he doesn't post here), and another doing the century. Otherwise, my weekends will be taken up with soccer until November (I'm coaching one of my son's teams). It does look like the weekend of 8/15 is suddenly open, so I'm thinking of either the Tour of Napa Valley or Crater Lake that weekend. I've done both in the past, and both are really good rides. I prefer the Crater Lake for the scenery, the empty roads and the limited number of participants (225 for the century), but it's 400 miles away.......

Yep - There are lots of good rides around Redding. I ride 5 days a week and link various routes for anything from 16 to 100+ miles. I'll try to pull together a couple of shorter loops that would start/finish at the Hilton (off S. Bonneyview). Might take me a few days to a week or so - heavy work schedule and Mt. Shasta is this weekend.
Ride safe.

How about the Marin Century August 1st? Looks like a crowded traditional Century if they won't be using the Climbing Century up to Mt. Tam. Still a nice 100 mile day.http://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
We've done that twice on the tandem and it's awesome. The Petaluma stop and the end have The. Best. Food. Ever.
We'll be out of town this year for a friend's son's wedding (our kids grew up together; this is what make me feel old :(). Otherwise we'd do it again.
