Introductions - Hello!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey all,
I'm returning to biking after stopping sometime in highschool (mostly due to outgrowing my bike). I've lurked here for a few days and you guys seems to be the amicable type, so I wanted to join and say hello.
Welcome to the forums. It seems that everyday, people are getting back to bicycling.

You can thank my girlfriend for resurrecting my interest in biking. She's been biking a lot around town on her old walmart/target/kmart bike that she got in junior high and I was joining her on my dad's roadbike. Her bike is old and too small and my dad's bike isn't very comfortable for me, nor do I want a roadbike.
We're both currently shopping for bikes and trying to find the right style. She likes the Trek FX and the Giant FCR. I like the Specialized Crosstrail and am going to check out the Scott Sportster... any advice is welcome.
Thanks!
You guys sound like your headed in the right direction. That Specialized is one sweet bike. The one I saw had a lockout for the fork. The Trek FX is a popular choice as well. If you think you'll be riding for over an hour, getting riding gloves can make the experience a lot better. Sometimes, you can negotiate a deal for accessories at time of purchase of bikes. Make sure you bring them back for the free tune-up!

Welcome to the Forums. I noted your post to the other recent newbie from Michigan, Chris. As I posted to him, I'm a native of the East Side of Detroit, and lived in Ann Arbor and learned to appreciate the cycling lifestyle there in the 1970's, so I always like to say Hi to Michigan cyclists. Most of my family resides in Macomb and Oaklnd counties now, so we visit frequently and that's where I ride; we stay in Fraser.
I was mostly a cycle tourist for a long time, including in Michigan and Ontario, and now I'm a a year round commuter and occasional centurian here in Boston. On my visits to Michigan I like to cycle and would love to tour the northwestern suburbs, including Farmington, but it is quite a trek to get there from Fraser. Because I'm usually time limited, I'm not inclined to drive there to ride. There was a recent thread on Bike Forums re riding east to west:"Question for Detroit area commuters"

I hope to try a suggested route in August when we next visit.
