Mid last year was my first with odometer so I am keeping track of tyre life on my road bike.

I got to around 2,800km (~1700mi) since September and first one tyre developed an 'S' in it . (Kevlar bead failure?) and then the next day I somehow got a perpendicular cut half way through the tyre. Really strange cut.

So my question is : IS THAT REASONABLE MILEAGE OUT OF A TYRE?

They were Vittoria Action Pro Twin Tread. They both have half dozen "nicks" in the tyre and seems like fair amount of tread.

My roads are pretty rough and one in particular has some potholes that i ocasionally fail to avoid.

That Action Pro is a racing tire and not really made for everyday commuting. You might try one of their CITY tires:Randonneur, Courier or City Pioneer. They may even be less expensive and should last longer for the kind of riding you do.

2,800 km is reasonable mileage out of a lightweight tire. I went through one set of Vredesteins and two sets of Continentals last year [still have the last set on now, think I'll change]. That was 9,000 km. The Vreds lasted about 2,500 km, so I get about 3,500 on the Contis, and I rotate... I'm not a big guy [about 160 lbs] and I don't go out of my way to ride over bad surfaces, so I'd say 2,500-3,000 km is pretty normal wear.

Thanks , I just don't like to be abnormal. I commute on another bike so I want a light tyre to keep up. Otherwise i am happy with the tyre.
