Classic & Vintage - Raleigh Technium 440

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just wondering if anybody knew anything of interest about this bike. I know it's an 80's bike as it has Don Johnson coloring. I was going to single speed it but since it's a bit too big I'm going to shine and lube her and give it to my brother. $20 isn't bad and this bike is far and away better than anything we had when we were kids.

i had and rode that same bike as a fixed gear for a long time, but have long since retired her. i just found someone to buy it built as a SS. its the same color, there should be a pic of it at the SS/FG forum.
Front tire is dry rotted :D
I have a raliegh technium 480 that has updated with DA 9 speed, it's been a great bike for me, it rides well and is comfortable enough for an all day ride. I rode it to work today as a matter of fact, i try to only ride it on nice days, it's in like new condition and I want to keep it that way.

My wife and I have a couple of these.......they are aluminum on the three main tubes and they are bonded with aircraft epoxy and an interfearence fit. The chainstays are hi-tensil steel as are the forks.
Not a bad frame really. Boeing airplanes were made using aluminum and epoxy so I wouldn't worry about the joint failing. Just don't heat it up for any reason! I would like to sell my 23 inch and her 21 inch bike as they aren't being/ havn't been ridden much at all. :D
You can see some pictures of my newly painted ss technium here.... http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=56379
