Road Cycling - High pressure tires? recommendations?

I am using Continental Grand Prix Supersonic tires for a while now.
I LOVE the way those tires ride. I like the fact that I can inflate then to 145psi, and they roll like a dream!
However, they wear out fast.. I get about 800-1000 miles out of the rear tire. Does anyone know of other 700x23 tires that can be inflated to those level of pressure?

Im using 700x23 continental gater skins[kevlar compound] im ridding them on 140psi, could go higher though road temp ads a few psi on hotter days, there wearing good so far had them only a few months, 1000+k's [no flats].Also i coat the inside of the tyres with talc'm powder, this stops the tube from sticking to the tyre when remouval is nessary. My zeus isnt a high performance cornering roady though slick on the stretches.Yep im happy with them :D $40 a piece before the price went up pays to shop arround :D

i think that some of the Vredestein tires are rated to 145 psi. right now, i'm training using
Vredestein Ricorso tires which are only spec'ed to 120 psi. but i have a set of Fortezzas that
are rated to 160 psi.

I assume, if you've been using Supersonics, that cost isn't really a critical issue for you (going on Australian prices, Supersonics are like gold). Cost is a big issue for me, so, in search of an affordable, very high pressure tyre, I had to settle for the good old Conti GP in a 20mm (rated to 150psi), which I get for about $27 US.

The only other decent (very) high pressure 23 mm tyres I liked the look of were some of the Vredesteins (http://www.vredesteinusa.com/roadtyres/index.html), which are rated at 145-150psi, and the Vittorias (http://www.vittoria.com/index3.asp?lingua=en), but I couldn't really afford either of them -- in Australia, these are usually over the $50 US mark.

The Vredesteins appear to have a lower profile than normal, so they don't feel like a 23mm.

Strangely, many of the Vittorias were rated to 170psi a year ago, according to their web-site (I'm pretty sure they're the same tyres), but now all the top clinchers are about 145psi.


Foot note: Mavic have a (very) general recommendation which advises that 23mm clinchers should not be inflated above 138psi. I'm not sure how this translates to reality because I've been putting 155psi in my 20mm GPs for years :)

Ooooo, no I haven't, but let's face it, we only get about 5 of those days a year in Melbourne, and when it is that hot I don't go out 'til 8pm. :)

Are high pressure tires suposed to roll better or something? IS there any spec data that anyone can link too. I use 23's and pump up to 8 or 8.5 BAR in both training and racing. I've been wondering lately if a thinner higher pressure tire would be faster. But if it's faster by 2 seconds over 50 miles I won't waste my time. Also if cornering traction is compromised then that also would not make it worth while imo.
