Anyone here ever had an old Eaton's glider? I picked one up at a yard sale recently, and noticed that the brakes barely reach the rims in the highest position. I suspect the previous owner swapped out 650b's for 27 inch wheels. I think the bike is from the seventies. Here are some pics.

themore common size for Eatons Gliders is (I think) 26X1-3/8, which has an ERD of 590mm, which would put the braking surface 20mm further down than 27" with an ERD of 630.
650B is not as common on North American bikes - it is a French size that has only recently found a following here.
The good news is that 650B has an ERD of 584mm and could probably fit better on the Glider than 27". You just need to find some tires that would fit between the stays. 700C wouuld also be slightly better than 27"
edit: or you could get shorter reach brakes.
my dad had that exact bike when I was a kid. Thought it was a clunker back then but wish I had it now.
My parents has a matching set although moms was a ladies version.

My parents bought one for me when I was 11 in 1963.
It was my first multi-gear bike; I thought I had ARRIVED when I got that.:D
The ironic thing was, my Dad was transfered to England w/work for a two year period in late 1964.
The bike was packed up and shipped over there and I used it in England from '64 to early '67.
We sold it just before we left to come home in the spring of '67.
It was perhaps the only Glider to be "repatriated" to the country or origin :lol:
