Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Vintage Colnago help!

Hi folks,
New member, bicycle idiot. I have had this bike for a couple years, picked it up at a tag sale just for something to ride around town. Had no idea what a Colnago was. Anyway, I was riding it home from work yesterday and the rear derailer fell apart (pulley and screw MIA). It is a Campagnolo nouvo record. The guy at the bike shop said these parts are hard to find. My question is, how much is this bike worth? It is a Colnago Super, but I have no idea what year it is. The rear derailer is Campagnolo, but the front is Shimano, along with the brakes and crank. I've gathered that these aren't worth that much from this forum. So, should I strip this thing, and sell the frame? What would it be worth? I really just need a commuter bike, I'm not a racer. Do the seatstay caps have "Colnago" in them? If not, the bike is probably late 70's. If so, it's probably early 80's. Your best bet may indeed to sell the frameset by itself.

Oh, and the Nuovo Record derailleur is not hard to find, unless you don't have a computer. And, there are plenty of other derailleurs that could cheaply and easily be substituted for the original.

If you learn about that bike and clean it up, it's worth quite a bit more than it sounds like you paid for it.

Thanks, I'll check that out when I get home. Incidentally, I found the pulley and screw on the road this morning...so the rear derailer will be fixed tonight. Any rough estimate on what to ask for the frame, or where to do this?

the pulley has four parts, the pulley itslef, center bushing and 2 outer dust caps. If you cant find all of the parts a Shimano from your local dealer will work. Figure about $4 for the pulley.

$400-600 for the frameset.

The seatstay caps do have Colnago in them. Also, I'm not sure if this is something from the factory or from the rider, but on the underside of the crank housing, the clover cutout has "Phil" written inside of it.

I'm going to venture a guess and sat that 'Phil' is written in red script? Regardless, what your seeing is the name brand of the bottom bracket assembley. Phil Wood makes some the finest components available.
