Hey, thanks for posting the link to the article. It struck a resonant chord with me, since I've been spending the last 2 months riding all of the 620+ miles of bike lanes in the city. Although it's been tiring, it's given me a chance to really feel active and alive. It's me, the bike, the map and the city. I'm up to 599, with a lot more than 20 miles to go. Being somewhat of a media *****, I posted a comment to the article, hoping to stimulate some coverage of my latest exploits. Again, thanks for the link to the story.

I had no idea that Queens map even existed! Cool! I'll have to order a paper copy of it, I love that sort of stuff...

That said though, when I read the title of this thread I was thinking:
"Unexpected Places? You mean like the bike lane to nowhere?"

I was just imagining an article about things like bike lanes or MUPs leading people into the middle of a major motor thoroughfare with nary a hint of where to go... I know... I know... I'm just way too cynical.

That's what I was thinking. Especially when first seeing the Queensboro bike path photo, I figured it would talk about the Queens side entrance to the bridge.
"WTF are you doing? You'll get yourself killed!!!" - a traffic coordinator yelled to me once as I rode with traffic to the bridge entrance.
