Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Feel like a long drive? Come to Red Box Road on Angeles Crest and ride to Wrightwood and back. About 95 miles and ~10K feet. Roll at 7:00.

Where abouts will the group get water from? Also how fast in terms of climbing/riding is group?

There is water and food at Newcomb Ranch, but it is only 12 miles in. The next water is at Grassy Hollow, about 40 miles in and an option for a turn-back if you don't want to go to Wrightwood. From there to Wrightwood is almost all downhill so there is that climb on the way back. We usually go to a c-store and get snacks.
Another option is to drive further in and wait for the group. Last week I started at Charlton and went to Wrightwood and it was 75 miles total. I took an extra bottle in my back pocket and I was fine and I like a lot of water. You could bring a small Camelbak, sometimes I do that.
If I'm there the climbing speed isn't fast and there may be some slower than me.

That sounds like a lot of fun, where is magee park?
OP - saturday you can do a group ride with SDBC out of UTC La Jolla, there's a list of them here: http://www.sdbc.org/core/template.php?page=ride.satride - they leave at about 830, but you won't be back til 12-1
or (my new fave) Chula Vista Pulse Endurance ride (not a development ride, but it is a no drop) with good scenery and few traffic lights http://pulseendurance.com/ for their address. It leaves at 7am, runs about 2 hours and is roughly 35mi - depending on how hard you push it you can take an extended mountain route that adds another 15mi in Jamul.

I know most of the (normal) rides in the area (SDBC, North County, Swamis, etc), I was looking for a BF ride actually.
-BigJohn, I might be able to attend if I don't have to cover for a co-worker.
-GP, What is the start time at Carlsbad and who else besides you is riding?
-GP, What is the start time at Carlsbad and who else besides you is riding?8:30. I don't know, it's a club ride. Usually the Sunday rides have about 10 people but last time we did this ride, there were almost 20.

Ya. The Saturday rides are getting kind of weird. I think I'll do the Sunday ride this weekend. Would have done it last but I had a hangover that was bad enough to keep me off the bike.

Do you stop for brunch or anything at Dana Point? What's the turn-around?
And I'll probably be doing Dudley's to Palomar Observatory with a brunch-stop at Mother's on Saturday. It's a little hot, so I'm going to be starting 7ish.

Just because you don't show up doesn't mean they don't happen. Oh wait...

No.
I'm not sure, I missed the last time they did this route. There might be a routeslip on the NC3 site. I'm usually off the back so I just follow everybody.

If you do Saturdays, you'll probably fit in better with the long ride.
The heat going up Old Castle last week would have sweated out your hangover pretty quick.

I might miss Sunday. Depends on how sore I am and if I can get the bike fixed - got hit by a car this afternoon.

Ouch. Hope it's not too serious, and nothing damaged to much - both you and the bike. Heal up.

So sorry to hear that. Be well.
Wha appened?
I was NB on Coast Hwy just past the flea market in Encinitas. Traffic was backed up for the Encinitas Blvd light. Traffic stopped to let a car turn left into the strip mall. The driver hit me. One of the witnesses said that I flipped over the hood but I don't remember.
I landed on my right side. My head hit the pavement, cracking the helmet. I ripped the last scab off on my garage door yesterday but i still have some pain in my right hand.
The driver's dad asked if he could pay me instead of contacting his insurance company. I agreed and he wrote me a check this afternoon.

Sweat! Party at GP's place.I didn't make any money, just enough to pay for my expenses.
No Cool Breeze you slacker? Who will I annoy for 7 hours now?
Wait. Is this the crash you told me about a while back or is this something new?Different. The first time I tipped over at 0 mph on a hill, landed on my knee and saved the bike from damage by letting it fall on me. This time you blew me off when I called and I had to ride alone. It was all your fault.

Had him write you a check? You're nice guy. A grumpy guy wouldn't have done that.

X-rays? Your doctor must be rich. My doctor would have done a coin tap test.
Had him write you a check? You're nice guy. A grumpy guy wouldn't have done that. He's in Celo Pacific. I figure Skippy can always punch him in the face if the check bounces.

Let's see... ride a 100+ miles with a stinky, complaining, fart propelled senior? Or a bachelor party at Vegas? Hmmm....
VEGAS BABY!

Lame. I was riding when you called and didn't hear the phone ring. These are the kinds of things that happen when you hang out with your wife instead of riding with me.

Are you doing this ride regularly? Are you doing it this Sunday (8/30)?
What's your typical average speed on this ride?
[Edit: Sorry to hear about your accident. How long until you're back on the bike?]

I do it kind of regularly but not this Sunday. This is an old thread.
Thanks. I rode home after the accident.
