I just got a Bianchi Pista, don't know if I'm keeping the fixed gear or getting a flip-flop hub for it. Either way I want both front and rear brakes. Price is definitely an issue. Any thoughts on which ones to get?

you can't have a rear brake for the pista, it hasn't been drilled out. only the fork will take a brake. the stock wheelset that comes with the pista is already a flip flop, it just doesn't come with a freewheel.

front brake is all you need plus I'm not sure if the 09 Pistas (if that's what you have) can even accommodate a rear brake. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Any hand brake should suffice.

You don't need a rear brake with a fixed gear bike because your legs can provide as much or more braking force than can a rear brake.

Keep riding fixed and you'll never want to free wheel again.

Get the cheapest Shimano front brake available (Tiagra, I think, about $35 from a bike shop).

With the right brake pads, a cheap dual-pivot Shimano brake will stop you as quickly as the most expensive brakes made, but it will weigh a tiny bit more.

Theres two 09 pistas, one has no brakes and the other has both brakes.

i double-checked; mine only has front brake.

so, the Shimano Tiagra is the one to get - or what...?

You can use pretty much any dual caliper brake. Tektro makes some cheap ones. I also have a Campy Chorus that I can do for cheap. PM me if interested.

Cheap, works well, comes with everything you need to install it.

I just bought one and put it on my Kilo.

Any cheap front brake should work fine for the Pista AFAIK. If you want to discriminate, do it based on looks/aesthetics.
