For months I have had forum members suggest a Pro Level Track bike
And at last I have the sample
Pictures below: {production will of course have chain and chain ring - but Shimano delivery on DuraAce level track stuff is slow!**

We are shotting for September delivery
But Shimano delivery on DA track stuff is Slow!

I want customers to get this at a good price; so we will start a pre-book at a price of $795
Plus frameset only option at $350 [remember prices include shipping in 48 states and no tax except in Texas]. I want the prebook price to be low, as I know waiting is hard AND Shimano delivery on DA track stuff is Slow!

I think this bike is 14 to 15 lbs
but I will know after I mount the chain ring and chain - once I get them as ......

Looks nice.

I think I would put a silver stem and seatpost on it, thoug. The crankset is the only silver thing on there, and it looks hung out to dry.

But hell of a deal for a sweet track bike. Nice job BD.

Thats what I'm talkin' about, right there!

The fork is drilled for a front brake, no?

Can you provide a detailed geometry chart?

Nice, really really nice. DA Cranks + Deda Pista bars, frame looks like the old track pro (or current track comp).

I'd give this a shot over the track comp for the cranks alone.

Are the decals over or under the clear?

Good point
it is a race bike for Track
but a hole would not hurt
I'll ask factory if they can do it

YES..YES...YES. Otherwise you are going to cut your number of potential buyers at least in half. A small hole isn't going to matter on the track, but most people simply aren't going to be riding this exclusively on the track. Some people ride brakeless on the road, but most don't. I spend most of my riding time on the road, with fast moving traffic, pedaling 81 gear inches above 20mph, with my hands in the drops. Brakeless is not an option for me, nor is it an option for a lot of other people. No option for a front brake kills the deal for me. I don't think there are any other carbon track forks out there that have a front brake option...that would make this frameset unique.

The fork on the second image looks like it's one of those "drilled, but plugged & painted over" deals. Don't know that is going to be the same fork that it's shipped with, but if it is, it doesn't look like it should be much of a problem.

Don't do it!!!!

Stick with your gut. This is a track bike for the track. Keep it as such. If you go down this road you might as well start added places for water bottles and fender mounts. You have enough bikes to cover people wanting brakes already. This should be a pure track bike. Please don't compromise.

Keep the fork undrilled. Maybe offer a different, drilled fork as an option. As stated, you offer many bikes with drilled forks already.

What's the word on decals? Over clearcoat?

I think the slippery slope is not needed here, and you should be much more upset about a rear brake mount than a drillable fork.

This is a different age, and 90% of these bikes will never see the track.

Definitely put a drilled hole in the front fork, so people have the option of running a front brake. The '09 Fuji Track Comp has a hole too. You'll sell at least twice as many bikes and/or framesets because of that "small" detail.

What size steer tube and seatpost?

lol at everyone saying the hole is a deal breaker.

the bike is going to be WAY more than 30 dollars less than anything else in it's quality range.

30 dollars will get a well stocked bike shop to drill your fork.

if you buy a fuji because the fork is drilled, well, LOL. Thats all.

come on !! a single hole wont hurt your image!

honestly like other said y'all should be tripping about that's its drilled for the rear!

"yay its mad track bike yo! see the fork isn't drilled but the rear is...."

and having both option would cool but i think that it would bring the cost up due extra time and exporting of said option.

also seriously i wouldn't trust my LBS fully to drill a fork like this one and i think it would kill the warranty.

schnee
07-14-09, 06:46 PM
Questions:
1) Isn't it kind of risky to drill a carbon fork? It is carbon, right?
2) Is it the same orange as your team road frame?

I also have to agree on a silver stem & seatpost looking better. If you can't do that, then a black chainring will mitigate it a lot, but since you don't have silver rails on the saddle, silver spokes or anything silver on the handlebars, there's nothing to balance it out and it'll stick out.

Anyway, I'll probably get one of these for the velodrome. Nice work, looks awesome!

i think you guys cant read. Mihlbach, i only spoke out about the hole, and why its not a deal breaker to me.

that said, if i bought this frame and it had no fork hole, id personally drill one. it seems that they are the plugged forks anyway. as it has a round spot near where the hole would be.

read more, blah blah less. i'm just saying no fork hole should not be a deal breaker on this bike.

Yes, the fork looks plugged, which suggests that its designed to take a brake. However, I wouldn't drill the fork myself without knowing more and I certainly would not ask any LBS to do it. I don't even know of an LBS that would drill it...they'd say is was too dangerous and would try to sell me a new fork instead. I'd rather just have a factory drilled fork and not have to deal with it.

Sigh...

So for a lot of people a brake hole is really important cause you want to use this bike on the road. So why is no one upset about the loose ball bb that likely go with the DA crankset. This looks to be a thin walled alu bike that would suck to lock up around town. There are so many options out there for bikes to fit what you want. Can't u people leave a nice track bike well enough alone. Right now there are few good / cheap track bikes ...

Some other questions:
- Can u post more pics of the wheel cut out
- what are the hubs? loose ball or cartridge?
- what do the wheels weigh?
- why the 6000 series alu instead of 7000?

"Flashy" is a subjective term. What did you have in mind aside from "not white?"

I'm not stuck on any one color. White, black, blue, red, yellow, green. Whatever. But I wouldn't expect a lot of folks are longing for a grape soda aluminum track bike. Then again, I could be out of touch. I was grumbling about the neighborhood kids screwing with my mailbox flag just an hour ago.

Maybe celeste...

and while you're at it, change the motobecane logo to a Bianchi one. Oh and call it the "track prototype" yeah. that would be sweet....
