Hi,

I recently purchased 2 mountain bikes (Specialized Rockhopper), for my girlfriend and myself. I spent quite a lot of time searching for trails in NYC area, but can't find anything that stands out.

We were hiking month ago on Lake Minnewaska and I saw several cyclists there. That's our first destination (it seems pretty simple to ride). The only problem is that it's 2.5-hour car ride from city.

Do you know of any other intermediate trails within 1-1.5 hours away from NYC. I am looking for something like Minnewaska (intermediate, no steep drops, nice scenic view).

We did another trail on rental bikes last year, but it was very boring (around 12 feet wide downhill trail along the river, nothing spectacular at all, car can easily ride on that "trail").

Any input would be appreciated.

Round Valley in central NJ was always solid. I am not sure if the sigle track qualifies as intermediate but there is a fire road if you find it too difficult. If traffic is light, I would imagine you could make it there in a about 1:20.

Go to MTBR.com and look at the trail listing/reviews.

There are trails on Long Island...the only ones I've ridden are Rocky Point, which are great, and if you don't take all the breakouts, relatively easy. Plus there is a "family" trail there.

I remember riding trails up around Tarrytown area with a buddy years ago, but can't recall exactly where - very nice trails, well, maintained.
