Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Riding into work this AM, came across a guy on a side street that was walking around, his motorcycle parked and his helmet on the grass. I asked "are you broke down" and he says "I crashed" and points to the massive streak of gas that I am standing in. I should mention at this point that I was riding opposite traffic (about 1/2 mile of my commute is this way) and in the bike lane. Which he just crashed in. He was obviously shaken, but OK, and had help on the way (A motorist had made a call for him). Took the S-turn up ahead (of me) too fast and bit the sidewalk. Good thing that guy was wearing jeans, or he'd have some serious road rash. He also had a good helmet and a biking jacket on.

Kinda scary, that guy just crashed in the lane I was in. He would've taken me or another cyclist out, for sure.

I would've been more annoyed at standing in the gas... :P

Wouldn't the gas be melting your tires and eating into your tube?

The gas was just a big long splash, it wasn't a puddle. So it wasn't dangerous or anything. I didn't even smell it. A guy here at work rides a bullet bike (2003 Honda CBR 600 RR) and said that the S-turn that guy spilled on has got to be the easiest S-turn in town, and the guy was an idiot for crashing there. Figures.

Maybe he was cornering one of those big heavy busa's all the way to his knees? Haha.

Maybe he hit gravel or sand. Maybe he hit an oily spot. Maybe someone cut him off. Or maybe he was an idiot. It just strikes me as unfair that the immediate assumption is that he did something stupid.

Agreed, but the fact that the poster said the motorcyclist said he was going too fast around the corner pretty much eliminates all other possibilities.

Zactlee. He admitted that he was speeding too fast and bit it. It was a dumb thing to do but I'm sure the guy has learned his lesson. He looked shaken, not stirred....
