I just brought home two more bikes! I think I need to chill a bit on the search for bikes.
I began riding again a while back. One bike in the garage. No problem.

Months pass and I got a steel Trek to build for my brother who wanted to ride with me. As I built it up I liked that one more than mine and traded him but kept building them. Two bikes.

Another month passes and I picked up a steel Centurion (excellent condition) for my wife to ride with me. It turned out to be too small and will soon be sold. Three bikes.

My son got his first bike from grandma, small but hey, it still counts. Four bikes

Several weeks ago I came across a steal of a deal on a Carbon Trek, and I bought it got it on the road today for the first time, it may be a keeper and my new daily (maybe the vintage becomes a SS). Five bikes.

I still wanted to get my wife something to ride and my riding partner is a mountain bike rider too so I've been wanting to try MTB as I've only ever done road riding my whole life.
So today two more coffin nails ran home...

I picked up a Trek 1000 for my wife AND a Specialized Hardrock for myself off of CL...
Seven Bikes
I need help!

And still, nobody has been riding with me.

I have at least 7 bikes in a couple of different locations at my place, and a few more in other places... I think I have about 25 total, but I am not sure. I still check the thrift stores and Craigslist... I saw a posting about a bike half way across the country I am trying to get someone to help me get. (Anyone in the Detroit area want to help?)

You're just getting started. ;)

When you get to a certain point, you then start trading, that helps to slow down the increase, as well as a decision to only seek certain bikes. Heck, before I bought my house 1.5 years ago, I had a dozen bikes in a 1 bedroom apartment, and no garage.

Also, since it sounds like you have some vintage bikes, you may want to check out Classic & Vintage, where the real addicts hang out. :)

I skipped the gateway bikes and went right to C&V, I think that's where I went wrong!

It creeps up on you. Six moved in with me and take up a whole wall of my garage. Two commuter bikes, a mountain bike, three recumbents (one mounted on a trainer), and yet another mountain bike lives with family in Flagstaff for riding there. All this and I still want a lightweight road bike with 650s for my shrimpy self.

Can't stay out of bike shops.

I was kinda like the OP. I bought cheap bikes off of craigslist and ebay. I managed to sell 4 of them. Now I have my bike for group rides, 2 for weekend rides, and 4 for commuting.

My wife says it is cheaper than "other women" and booze.

When you get to buying a 16 x 10ft shed to keep the bikes in- you may have too many- but I doubt it.

And others will now come in to show that I do not have many bikes- I am sure.

And they all have their uses and all get used.

Come to think of it, I could use a shed...
