So I was shopping for some new 700c tyres and happened upon the Continental Ultra Sport Sport Kevlar (wire bead) at MEC... the price was right at 21.00 each (same as Ultra Sport 700:25's) and these are the improved version of the Ultra Sport with a Kevlar belt and additional puncture protection.

I don't get many flats and I don't do skids but have put down some good miles on these 700:23 tyres and have to say they are really nice... at 110 psi they still offer a great ride and bet that they still feel good at 120 psi.

Having run Ultra Sports I found they can rattle your teeth at higher pressures but the new version is completely different.

I would not say these are as good as my Avocet TT30's but they come pretty damn close for comfort at higher pressures and speeds... and it would be really nice if they offered them in a 27 inch size for my vintage rides.

That's my tire tip of the day.

How can you tell the difference between the 'regular' and Kevlar versions of this tire? Are all the folders non and wire bead Kevlar? Is that how it works?

yeah, folding tires are kevlar bead and non-folding tires are wire bead. Folding tires are lighter and generally nicer.

Dammit. I wish I would have read this 2 hours ago before I rode to the LBS that isn't so local. I grabbed some Bontrager Select B 700x23 tires but they had the Conti for the same price with the kevlar bead. Did I make a bad decision?

Folding tyres use a flexible bead (kevlar) but kevlar is also used in wire beaded tyres to provide a protective layer against foreign objects.

The install on mine was not too evil but very few tyres cause me grief..
