Paging UMD...
Heard about this ride that loops to Rincon & back, 35-ish miles?
Couple team-mates are thinking of doing this instead of Ontario (105-degrees, 35-minute race for the 4's). I thought I'd see what you know about this ride.
Its a fun ride, there is a wide spectrum of riders there. Often times there will be local pros heating things up as well.
There are two sprint points, one after some short but steep climbs, and one after mostly flat (and fast) terrain.

Any re-group points? Or is it "keep up or know your way" type of ride? If so, route?

There is a regroup after the first sprint (at the top of Bates Road), though it might be a little tough if you don't know the way. A lot of people get shed on the climb up Gubernador, so usually there are some wheels to follow. You can also opt to not turn up Gub, and take the slightly easier (and much slower) way to the regroup point at the first sprint. The ride is pretty much over after the second sprint, so most people can catch back on.
It's a great ride, always starts "late", does a ~7 mile warmup to the polo fields and then it's basically a 20 mile race. There is a regroup in the middle and two opportunities to shortcut the course if you get behind. The first shortcut cuts out the only significant climb and the second shortcut is just stopping at the regroup instead of passing it and continuing around and doing the second climb. Pretty much anyone who does the first climb and doesn't stay with the lead group cuts out the second. After the regroup it heads back for ~7 miles and there is a sprint. The sprint is usually pretty sketch, I try to stay out of it. Then it just cruises back to town. Here is my data from last Sunday. Aaron Olson and a guy from BMC were there.

interesting, I was wondering about some of the 'numbers' of the ride.
Although, it felt way harder, than the normal 'flat-maxed-out' hard, for me once we got back on 192 at Nidever. I was havin a hard day...
The mileage number doesn't seem right though... was that a partial ? If so , what section?
Coming into town from my house, to the bathhouse, is about a 29 mile loop, and the total ride for me is just about 62 miles, that makes the 'Worlds' ride/portion about 32-33 miles (including Bates) ???
I never seem to remember to 'clock' that section, even when I do it on my own...
can you 'guess' (or does your power?GPS unit map out 'power'/speed against the ride profile section?) where you hit the 851 watts and where the 50 MPH was?
The data was from the polo fields, over gub & bates, and back to the polo fields. If I include the whole thing from the bath house to Peet's it's 35 miles and from mu house and back is 56. I can look at the data against a map if I load it into different software. I mostly just use WKO which doesn't have maps but I can tell where things are by the distance and elevation profile. The 850W was in the polo fields sprint but I was cut off and shut it down. I hate that sprint, too many people going over the double yellow to get position. More interesting is that my peak 5s was at the bottom of gub onto the 150, going from 40 on the descent down to about 20 for the corner and then accelerating back up to over 30 again :D
The 50mph looks like bad data, the fastest I went was actually in the low 40s, both on gub and the 101.
My average power for that ride is always quite a bit higher, yet I never make it over Gubs with the group. Cycling is so unfair to fatties...

There might be a couple of them, although I haven't gotten confirmation. I will be doing Ontario (couple masters races, maybe even the P/1/2/3). Ontario's actually a shorter drive for me than S.B. and I'll just bring lots of ice.
Tell them to look for a small Platinum guy on a black Tarmac with an orange Fizik test saddle :p
