I know this varies a lot from person to person, budget to budget, and so on a so fourth. But, I seem to always put more money into my conversion than intended. I mean, I know this is typically the case, but what about you guy? I usually get powder coat done and the whole 9, but I typically go for a budget-minded build. Post some pictures and if you please, a price list and parts list.
I'll get mine up whenever my build is done haha.

lol, lets measure e-peens.
Started with $350 for my Kilo TT, $50 for a pair of Vittoria Rubino Pros, $40 for new pedals and toe clips, $30 for a new saddle, and $40 for bullhorns. So roughly $510 or so since i rounded these figures off.

ive put in about $200 for two sets of bars, gatorskins, pedals/clips/double straps, thomson stem, seatpost, and some tools.

I listed this as "replacement cost" because some parts I had or stole from my other bikes.
Motobecane Messenger- $350
Carbon seatpost - $50
Saddle - $40
Grip tape - $10
SRAM-S7 hub and shifter - $100ish
above hub built into a wheel - $70ish
Custom bar end grip shifter mount - $Priceless
IRO 18t cog - $22
Tires - $60
and some other stuff I probably forgot...
Here's a picture I took on a ride yesterday.

I have about 1200 into my surly steamroller.
Around $550
For my Kilo TT built from the frame up. Probably way more than was necessary, I definitely did not always find the best deal for stuff. Also building up my own wheels did not save me nearly as much as I thought. At least they haven't exploded in 1000+ miles.
Not too much, $350 for new wheels, $40 tires, $25 handlebars, $60 saddle, and ~$100 in small things like tubes and labour at the bike shop.

$500 bucks pictures in the pics thread
old bikes $2500 & $2000
I found I liked the high end ride but didn't like the paranoia that comes with locking up a bike that costs 2 months pay outside

Wow lots of replies and it seems if most people have around $500-$600 into their conversions. I am noticing a lot of "newer" frames and such however. I usually find older frames (ex. Nishiki's, Schwinn's, Peogeot's) and take them into PC along with a list of new parts. I do all the labor my self so that saves a ton of money. I usually try to re-use the vintage/stock stuff like headset, maybe bars, stem, and if I am lucky, the BB and crank set. I find that people like the vintage stuff as long as the chain line is good and the frame and wheel set look nice. I am going to have around 6-bills into my Peugoet conversion when I am done. I'll be sure to post when I get it done...just waiting on parts! More pictures guys/gals!!

I bought a bike with the intention of getting something that didn't need to be upgraded right off the bat. So I got my MASI Speciale Fixed and the only things I replaced were
Stem - 20 bucks
Handlebars (switched out for some ergo drops) - 40 bucks
Selle San Marco Regal - 200 bucks
and I added a clipless system. The rest is still going strong and hopefully will continue to do so into next season.

Ebay road bike - ~$100
Vuelta wheel set from Bike Island - $120 (maybe $100)
Surly Cog - $20 (don't really remember)
Surly Lockring - $10 (don't really remember)
Rocket ring 44t - $25
KMC chain - $15
Nashbar bullhorns - $15
ebay bar-end Brake lever - $10 (reused cable and brake)
ebay bar tape - $5
Total ~$320
I didn't include the eggbeater pedals or brooks saddle that get shared with my other bike.
I wish I'd just bought a new low-end track bike, but this one is comfy... plenty of 70mi rides on it. But, not allowed on the local velodrome, and in the end... I still have a 25-30 year old bike with moderate components.

I have two conversions i spent about 800 on each, I just finished building my first ever track bike, which cost me about 1700. I spent months building the converstions, and almost a year with the track bike. I like to look at them as assets.

Yeah I wish I could just have $250 into a conversion. But I am a huge perfectionist and always ending up wanting to change nearly everything. I just recently did a Peugeot that I got for 30 bucks, and had total like $160 or something. That was a sweet bike but I sold it because I needed the cash. Anyhow, I like hearing and seeing peoples build lists.

I originally started out on a Bianchi Pista with a Shimano Tiagra brake on it for I think $535.
I eventually replaced everything on the bike except for the frame set, had it powdercoated, and insured it for $2400.
Recently my frame cracked just below the seat clamp, with the crack running not quite all the way around the seat tube.
I have commissioned Warren Rice of Realm Cycles to make a new frame for me, and this prompted me to further upgrade my drivetrain and my wheels.
I expect to insure this new bike for close to $3000.
Warren has very kindly sent me a jpeg of the computer drawing of the frame, and he has also sent me pictures of the frame at each step of completion.
He has presently completed the front triangle and attached the chainstays and the horizontal dropouts.
I have uploaded the photos to my Bikeforums Photo Album, and I'll post the last photo I've received from Warren here:

I know this sounds like an obscene amount of money to spend on a fixed gear bike.
At my present stage of life (63 years this month) I can afford this kind of hobby.
Please do not think of this bike as wasted on an old man.
I cherish every ride and I average about 100 miles per week.
I would gladly trade my bike for your youth, and, since that won't happen, I'll just enjoy the bike. :)

Wowser that sure sounds like a sweet frame man! And I do not think anyone on here would think of you as incapable. For crying out loud, you ride longer than a lot of people I know. Respect sir. Please post pics and update us on your progress if you dont already have a dedicated thread for it.

Oh man... this thread has made me realize that I have $950 in my bike, not including lots of tools and parts that didnt work out.
Maybe I AM into bicycles.

for some reason this doesn't seem right but i guess it is. Also luckily for me i sold my old paintball gun for $600 so that went straight to the bike. What was the best part is that i paid $525 for the gun 4 yrs ago.

40 saddle
15 post

Selling other stuff like bikes or any other items or high value makes it a litte easier after I drop that $200 here or $50 there. But in the end, all the time, stress, and money that gets put into a project definitely gets over-turned by the finished project. Pictures anyone? Possibly of painting your frame, re-assembling everything, etc.? I wish I would have taken more pictures of my first build. Dammnit!!
- Got my bk frame for free :p would have been approx $800 cad

I have put my newest tarck together two weeks ago. It's built on an new 08' Argon 18 Electron frameset.
Drivetrain was on budget considering my current financial situation: messenger/velocity deep v's and gatorskins.
It went a little over a grand but love how it turned out.

Depends on how you count.
I bought new hubs, track cog, stem, seatpost, front brake, brake lever and handlebar tape. Everything else is out of the junk box. The frame is actually an old Raleigh Technium mountain bike. I cut off the canty studs and fitted 700c rims. I'm thinking I've got under than $200.00 invested but it would be higher if I counted the value of my old parts.
