I was riding along this morning about 6 miles into the ride. I reached for my water bottle while still moving. When all of a sudden Pain hit me in the right side of my chest and under my arm, right shoulder and right shoulder blade, felt as if I were hit with a very hard punch. Enough to take my breath. It lasted a few mins maybe 2 or 3 mins. And is still sort of sore and stiff now. What do you think happened. All that I did was reach and grab my water bottle which was an unusual position for me. I usually stop and take a sip but for some reason I wanted to keep riding and not stop.
Could of been a simple cramp or something way more complex. Chest pain, or anything close to it, can be very serious. If it is lingering, I would suggest seeing a doctor.

It's your body telling you to buy a Camelbak already. :p
Sounds like a pinched nerve.

Dude, you need to see your doctor. MIs (heart attacks) don't always present with the typical left arm pain. Get an EKG.
That's probably a worst-case scenario.
Good luck.

I don't know how old you are or what your physical condition is, but he presents a good point. If you are in a physiochronological demographic where you need to be worried about a heart attack, PLEASE check with the doc.

You could have pneumothorax, any difficulty breathing?

Im 38 years old. I believe that it may be a pinched nerve. My back and shoulder still hurts when I twist or turn. No problem breathing. I just feel stiff. :(

Get checked out. Even at 38, chest pains are nothing to ignore. Keep in mind that MIs can be mild enough that they only present with pain like you described. You could have damage heart tissue.
As was pointed out earlier, this is worst-case. Still, it merits the time to get examined.

If you fall over dead tomorrow, then you'll know it was your heart!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you popped a rib head out of joint. It could take days to readjust itself or 10 minutes at the chiropractor.

I feel fine. Just the areas described above are a little sore and stiff. What I was doing when this happened was I was about 6 miles into my ride and I reached to get my water bottle. I was coasting at the time and as I reached for the bottle thats when it hit. I have had back problems in the past. But dang that sort of scared me. My shoulder does have a lot of popping in it also.
Ps.
If I do drop dead tommorrow. Well then it will be my first day in Heaven. :p

physiochronological demographic
Say what?
Er, does that mean "OLD?"
Hey, I do a lot of weight lifting, and am very careful not to hurt myself. So, guess what. I was on my back, reaching for the bar bell to start some bench presses, and in that simple reach, something (muscle, whatever) caught just below my armpit, and OW!
I hadn't even started my weight lifting.
It has pretty much gone away, and I could rub it and feel the strained muscle right over the rib.
But it sure hurt for a minute there.
Even though I am in the "physiochronological demographic" for all sorts of things, I knew right away this was just a muscle strain. Time passed and it is going away!
Hope this is your case, also!

I used a rub from the Dr from an injury awhile back, pain discomfort gone for now.
Dnvrfox, How long did your discomfort last?

I was riding around the Gettysburg battlefield and had a similar experience, but on my left side. Got checked out; no heart attack, a torn pectoral muscle. Took forever to heal.
Go in, get it checked, or you'll worry about it too much.

Same exact thing but completely different happened to me.
Rode a century felt fine and the following day picked up a large cardboard empty (light) box nothing happened. Next, 2nd day after century felt like I had been shot in the spine with a nail gun.
Tense muscles between the shoulders blades from holding my head up for a century and just the right reaching movement the following day pinched the hell out of something that I didnt feel until the second day. So anything can happen. The body is a complex machine.
Ribs although good with sauce can become quite inflamed at their connecting points, and hurt like hell.
Alternate heat and cold packs, worked well for me.
ps If it is a heart attack just rub some butter on your chest that'll help it.
ps ps the above comment is for entertainment purposes only Pedl'n fool is not an MD although playing one on the internet. In the event something terrible happens sue someone else.

Sounds somewhat similar to an incident I had. I was playing Basketball 1v1 with a friend, turned, then reversed, not even very quickly, and suddenly there was a fiery pain under my right shoulder blade. It was so bad I just fell down from shock. I hadn't exerted any more force in my arm than required to dribble the ball.
I could hardly run at track practice that evening because it hurt to swing my arm. Pulling off my T-shirt was one of the most frustrating experiences ever. The pain faded over the next 3-4 days and there's been no symptoms at all since then. I figured it was either a really badly pinched nerve or I somehow managed to dislocate my shoulder. In retrospect, it probably wasn't the latter since there was never any swelling. I'm afraid I don't know of any aid for pinched nerves.

It is still there a slight bit - about 3 days now, but does not interfere with any activity at this time.
