I found one of my old shirts! Crap, is it ever too big on me. I look back and I have trouble believing I wore an 8XL!

I'd keep it around as a reminder of where you have come from. I still got a pair of my "fat(er)" pants that I keep folded up in my drawer for just such reason.

I have a pair of bib overalls I kept for that purpose.

I kept some 4x t shirts for use at the gym, and a belt to remember the days of my 60 inch waist, but the rest of the wardrobe aside from shoes went to Goodwill.

Kudos to all of you.
I have only lost 50 pounds, and I know how amazing I feel. You must be perpetually grateful for such a life changning life-style alteration!!
Keep up the good work!

Drop the "only" along with the pounds. 50 pounds lost is an amazing amount. Think of it as percentages of your starting weight; dropping even ten percent is an enormous accomplishment.

I am hoping to drop 20 more to get to the 200lb mark!

I never realized that, Tom! You are truly blessed.

Wow. Kudos to all you "big losers"! Seriously, the networks and cable stations should do more documentaries on people who are motivated to lose weight and get in shape the natural way - without gastric bypass and othee extreme measures. Nothing like old fashioned motivation, determination, and hard work.

Congratulations to all of you! Feel proud!

Actually, I did have a bypass, the Roux-N- procedure, because I was literally dying from my weight. I do have a Pituitary Disorder, partial pituitary shutdown, from Empty Sella Syndrome. It can still kil me by shutting down my adrenal gland and stop my production of norepinephrine, or kill me from kidney disease, but not the weight now, at least. :D

I also have to stay on a regimen of replacement hormones and precursors to stay healthy.

Now, if the weight can be lost without having to go the route I did, it's optimal, and doable, as bdinger and a few others have so aptly shown.

I havent posted here since last fall, b ut wanted to see what people were saying about TDF in the pro forum, and decided to have a peek here again, because well, I'm a clyde, and i've been having a heck of a time riding more than just the weekends lately.

I get home from work today, see this post, turn to my wife and say "I'm going for a ride, just look at Tom here!" "I gotta go, I'll be back in a bit"

anyways.

What an inspiration you are to me. enough said man. I'm riding my bike to work tomorrow, and thats that.

Well it sounds like you had some other issues as well but you still did the bulk of the work yourself. Very inspiring.

Congratulations and keep riding!

Got my monster 3XL on the wall in my bedroom, to remind me of how hard it was to get out of and how easy it would be to go back.
On the other side, recently I found my old Vietnam-era "tiger suit" combat fatigues and Class A dress uniform, which I hadn't seen in probably 25 years. I'm going to hang THAT on the wall, too, as a goal.

My present measurements, about which I'm slightly immodest but I still have a way to go: 6'4", 230, 37 waist, 46 chest, 17.5 neck.
Measurements in 1968, according to my uniforms and final military physical: 6'4-1/2", 181, 34 waist, 44 chest, 18 neck.
Holy crap. I've lost 40 pounds AND I'M STILL FAT!

My goal is to be able to lose the weight w/o surgery. There's a lot of people that have had success like you Tom but I personally know two people that died from complications. I left one doctor because that's all he would talk about each visit. I'm trying to average riding 5-6 days a week. I started only being able to ride a couple of miles, taking an hour. My personal best has been just over 10 miles in just over an hour. I'm trying to increase a little everyday and have noticed my eating has changed as well as my pants and my energy level. Everyone has there own method and for me it's been exercise first then eating. You are truly an inspiration to see Tom and I hope someday to be able to take the same kind of picture as you.
