I decided to start a thread since a few people have said they are coming. Start at Red Box at 7:00 or Charlton at 8:00 and ride to Grassy Hollow or Wrightwood and back. The full route is about 95 miles with 10K feet and there are options for less.
It won't be a fast pace and if you'd like to come with us bring an extra bottle or Camelbak and some snacks. A nice, casual ride in the mountains.

Thanks big john,

I plan to be there (Red Box 7:00 AM)! Maria can't make it, Lauretta can't make it, nor can Julie and Colin. Chuck Chen is a definite maybe, but he's so fast . . . even if he starts with us we won't see him for long.

I posted it on the Rebel website too, so I hope we'll have more riders show up.

Hopefully this thread will help more SoCal forumites find it. What about Beanz? He should ride it!

M'eh! Been whippin' Gina's butt back into shape. Hope to get her on a flat cool 100 miles. Maybe SART/PCH/SGRT. Increasing her mileage getting her ready. Should be soon!

Another note, down about 3 more lbs since The Bear. After Gina's ride, I'll hit the hills again!:thumb:

No worries, Brian. I had water at Grassy Hollow last week and it tasted great.

I'll probably go for the banana-nut muffin, my favorite ride food.
When are we going to see you on a ride?

...when you start doing wimpy rides....

2010 is my year!!! (I hope)

I really really miss ACH as well as the ACH gang. I had a great time in 2007.

He's been dealing with some awful back pain. I'm guessing he's still strong as an ox, though.

As John said, my back has not been holding up all that well. In particular on long climbs such as ACH. The last two times I tried (over a year ago) were not successful. I have been riding shorter rides and doing just fine. Most of the time and can do the Mulholland and Yerba types of climbs OK. I miss some of those great San Gabriel Mountain climbs though.

I'll put up some from past rides up there, not sure if anyone is bringing a camera this trip.
Here is a view from about 7000 feet.

Are the sustained downhill sections as fun as I imagine?

There are 4 six mile descents, and all of the pavement is new. I actually get tired of descending.

We didn't go to Wrightwood, turned around at Grassy Hollow instead. It got pretty hot on the way back. We had a fun time and got some great fries at Newcomb Ranch. Some awesome women riders were on the ride, along with scvroadie, vertical bob, and Rick@OCRR. Rick took some pictures, maybe he'll put some up.

Okay, my brain is cooked from yesterday and the ride today, but I'm not remembering who Jim S is. I know Jon S . . . and David S, but not picturing Jim S.

As I said, however, I may just be brain cooked.

Sorry Rick. I guess you don't know him, but you might recognize him from rides.

He knows you, at least by sight. He told me he said hi to you at some double. He rides a white Motobecane and is quite skinny. Nice guy.

If you're looking through that gallery you're probably seeing Shai's kids.

Okay John,

I'll keep an eye out for the white Motobecane on the Mt. Tam double! Lots of times I ride with people, talk with them a lot . . . never ask their name. He could have been one of those.
