BMX - Just another "what bike is this?" thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Picked it up just like this yesterday for $25.

It's a Peugeot, cromoly 501. Chrome finish is nice..
Don't know anything about BMX, just wanted to tinker with something, try riding something different for a change.

How much do you think it'd be worth once I put on a seat and fixed the brakes? Or did I get ripped off?
Thanks everyone

You definitely did not get ripped off, that's a cool old bike. You'll never get more than $50 for it unless someone's a collector or had one as a kid or something, you should just enjoy it!

I disagree with ^^^

I've seen similar bikes in similar condition go for 3 or 4 times more than that!

It all looks very and clean and has got some nice bits on it, can you get some closer pics of some of the parts? (like stem, pedals, bars, brakes, wheels etc) Then i'll be able to give you a better idea of pricing! :thumb:

Seems to be in relative good shape... just some dirt/surface rust... and the spokes on the wheels are pretty nasty.

Anyways, cheers

Looks like you've got some sweet parts on it!!

Tbh i don't know whether the brakes are Dia compe MX 900 or 1000's. But either are good.
Here's how much a brand new set of 1000's with levers are:

Dia Compe MX1000 Brakes (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOS-Dia-compe-MX-1000-brake-set-RED-old-school-bmx_W0QQitemZ230358980999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item35a277198 7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1688|293%3A1|294%3A50)

Takagi Crank, can fetch a bit.

And even i din't realise Sumo rims were worth this much!!!

Sumo Rims (http://cgi.ebay.com/ACS-Sumo-20-BMX-Spoke-Rim-Wheel-Bike-Bicycle-Shimano_W0QQitemZ290329475923QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4398fc3b53&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)

All in all i think you got a mega bargain!!!!

If you took it to BMXmuseum.com or VintageBMX.com, you could find out more about it.
