I will likely be taking the family skiing in Cortina D'Ampezzo this January. Are there any CV makers near there that I could visit. Maybe pick up a frame:innocent:. Will probably fly into Venice and take the train up. I know, I know, I should just enjoy the trip and resist my C&V OCD.

Enjoy. I was snowboarding up there 3 years ago and even though it was a crappy winter for snow the conditions were still pretty nice. The off piste terrain is always in great shape up there because the Italians don't like to ride off trail. You can find powder stashes days after it snows because the Italians simply don't leave the trails. Off trail is very safe in the Dolomites, unlike the Alps where there are crevasses all over the place. The Dolomites are really impressive and the on-mountain food...well sufficient to say nothing in the world even comes close.
Cortina is a very Italian chic after dark, so bring some nice clothes to wear out in town or you'll feel a bit under dressed. And keep in mind that restaurants (even in the hotel) don't open up for dinner til around 8pm, and if you show up to eat at 8 you'll be the early bird...so grab a bite to eat before you come off the mountain for the day and lay in some snacks from the grocery store when you get there because you're gonna be looking for dinner long before they start serving it.
What hotel are you staying at?
..sorry snowboarding is my raison d'etre and I get excited when people start talking about snow and mountains :)

Thanks for the tips Craven. It will either be the Hotel Montana or the Hotel Oasi. Have you stayed at either of these?
