Professional Cycling For the Fans - Am I correct? His first flat?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I remember reading somewhere that Armstrong had no flats in his 7 previous tours. Today in Stage 12, he flatted. Astana had 3 or 4 teammates drag him back to the group, so no big deal.
It always amazed me that someone could ride tens of thousands of kilometres without flatting. A testament to what good maintenance and appropriate tire pressures + top notch equipment can do.

He's had at least one other flat in this tour.

In one of the discovery shows they had a few years back they attributed to the ageing of their tubulars. Basically they keep a ton of tubulars in a climate controlled basement (similar to a wine cellar) for multiple years. I think they said that in most cases he is riding on a tubular that is roughly 5 years old and has become supple with the aging process.

Nah, you two are soo incapable of realizing the full extent of the deception that's going on. The UCI has in fact, secretly developed new tire technology that they haven't given to anyone but Lance in exchange for his return to comp. cycling. By the year 2011 His Majesty will own The Tour, UCI, ProTour, Trek, Giro, all of Sram and perhaps NIKE. All teams will have to approach him on their knees in order to receive his annointed touch. At some point the "secret" of Lance's success will come out. That he's been transfusing tainted blood from the "Greatest Doper of ALL Times" Eddy Merckx.
Yes.
In fact until this Tour, Lance had never punctured in his life.
Apart from the other hundreds of pro cyclists who havent punctured in multiple Tours, what makes Lance a discussion point is that he both WON AND never punctured, compared to other riders who just havent punctured, big difference.
I remember one team time trial where it was raining and one team went with really narrow tires and suffered from flat problems. Armstrong said after the race that they went with wider tires because you always risk flats in the rain.
I think he goes over his machine with a fine tooth comb.

I have a trained monkey that can tell you that there are increased chances of punctures in the rain.
Julian, have you ever ridden in the rain? If you have, and you happened to think about tires, do you think your conclusion would be that riding in the rain is exactly the same as riding on dry road?
You had to hear or read that from Lance to know that?

Only Lance knows that. He's smarter than everyone in the world Howzit, don't you know that yet? You love him, I know you do. Admit it.

I don't know where you read that, but Lance has had plenty of punctures. If you've watched his other tours, he's had punctures. Lord knows they always show it.

Yeah, Julian...if you don't like to ride in the rain, don't go to Europe. In fact, if you don't like rain at all, definitely don't go to Europe.

The best was when he pulled his cross country move in the mountains a few years ago, and managed not to flat. When you pull a atsunt like that, you are asking for a flat.
I'm not as concerned with buying Lance's tires as I am with avoiding whatever Andy Shleck and the rest of his team is using. It seems like everyday they've been showing a Saxo Bank rider getting a change.
