There will probably be some who dissagree but, in general, most knowledgable cyclist will agree that Chris Horner is the strongest rider in the US Peloton today. Why then, is he not on the US Olympic team? Like any other proud American I want our Olympic teams to be the best of the best from the USA, but in this case this doesn't seem to be true. Now nothing against Jason McCartney, he is awesome, but a one-day winner-takes-all race is not the right way to pick team members. There has got to be a better way.

Others would say that Fred R. would have had the best shot at a medal.

But, Tilford says Horner was the strongest, (http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/6390.0.html) I'll take his word for it.

I like that the other riders were chosen before, with this race only determining the last spot.

I agree that Fred R. would have had the best chance as it looks like a breakaway sprinter type course.

I agree that Horner or Rodriquez should be representing. Now when considering who should be there or shouldn't you need to consider that there is more than one event. There is a time trial isn't there? Not that I think that that changes anything from what's been said here, just no one seems to have mentioned that.

Wasn't the US Olympic team built around who Lance wanted with one token rider who "earned" his way? Too bad Adam Bergman came in second. I would have loved to see him on the squad.
