STOP IT!

It's bad enough you are a hazard out there already brakeless sans toe-clips...but when you are riding down the street, pecking away on your crackberry or iPhone, hands off the bars even, you are a even bigger hazard.

I especially love to see you fools in Central Park, going the wrong way on the loop, around 7:30pm with all the traffic in the park.

Next time I see one of you doing this I'm taking you down. It won't be hard.

Think kids...think!

I'm guilty of replying to some texts while riding. I've only done it when I was in safe spots. I've stopped after falling down doing it. I felt like an idiot. Still do. At least no one saw me do it.

Sorry, bad bike riding isn't as bad as driving, nor is it worse.

And I'm not sure if being a negligent biker is really as bad as being purposefully violent.

The next time I see you take somebody down, I'm taking you down harder. Plus your family.

If you feel that being "purposefully violent" is worse than riding like a dick...isn't it a bit hypocritical to say that you'd take him down harder...plus his family? Obviously, the OP is venting...or are you too much of an ignoramus to notice that? Are you one of those dicks that rides with no hands while texting too?

and you guys want to share the roads. :notamused:

its as bad as driving. what if your texting and on coming motorist sees you and (going the wrong way on the loop as said) panics swerves to avoid the on coming not paying attention cyclist. like a good decent motorist is doing, pay attention to road. hits another car and another and those 2 other cars hits another. you just caused 4 to 6 crashes because you were not paying attention to the road. you probably look back and think stupid motorist get a bike just as you finished that thought, you just finished texting "lolomgbbqLMAO"

:notamused:

can you just imagine that scene.

texting-while-biking may not be as bad or dangerous as texting-while-driving (for obvious reasons), but it is still a danger to pedestrians, other riders, and drivers who are obeying traffic laws -- I mean this within the context of riding in traffic. if one is out in the middle of nowhere, who gives a sht?

if you have to text so bad, pull over to the sidewalk for 10 seconds. jeezus.

What if you're texting while biking and a military convoy carrying nine kajillion nukes swerves to avoid you and crashes into the volcano that leads to the center of the earth and the whole world explodes?

It just goes to show you that texting while biking is even worse than nuclear bombs.

I think the point is that just because you weigh less than a car does not mean that you are incapable of causing a very serious accident. A road cyclist's responsibilities are not fundamentally different from those of a motorist. Moreover, generally speaking, riding a bike does not give one more of a right to be an irresponsible serf-righteous jerk, though many people behave as if it does.

I agree, but seemed to have glibbed and obfuscated my way into a Thing.

Bikers who bike like arseholes are a pet peeve of mine. Almost as much as bikers who think that everyone else is an arsehole except for themselves.

I just want to make sure there isn't any confusion:

This thread is very specifically directed towards "hipsters riding brakeless" and texting. Any other demographic groups (including but not limited to: yuppies, roadies, and hipsters with brakes) are free to continue riding and texting at their leisure.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, because the only morons I see texting (thus riding handless) while riding are the brakeless/skinny jean set and Chinese delivery men smoking on their electricbikes (which I find more funny and they tend to be talking on the phone but need the other hand for their cig).

Though I will clarify and say this, just for you peaches....

If you are riding a bike and SMS'ing/browsing on your phone you are a moron. Clear enough?

I can't even begin to imagine doing anything with my phone while riding my bike. To second queerpunk, I also cannot stand *****hole bike riders...whether "hipster", DUI criuser (a usually middle-aged male...without a license for one reason or another...on a Huffy mountain bike pedaling his ass off in high gear and going nowhere) or anywhere in between, mostly because I also drive a car and they are bothersome.

I'm a considerate driver, as well as bike rider, and wouldn't text while doing either one.

Regardless of how stupid this one person you witnessed was, why did you feel the need to come in here and make a thread about it? You can't honestly believe that anything other than an unproductive and inflammatory reaction would come of this.

I saw a roadie leaving the group ride yesterday in his suv. He threw a handful of trash out the window as he drove away. Maybe I'll go make a thread in the roadie forum because it's clear all roadies do this and I'll rail at them about the actions of one person.

If this thread is any indication of the way you think and view the world, I'd pit that hipsters intelligence against yours any day.

Actually in the past few weeks I've seen at least one person doing this every time I ride, most times I see 3 or 4. It's not just once.

I decided to post my rage here because; a) I can; b) someone needs to break up the monotony of the "rate my bike/no brakes suck/tarck on the cheap" threads; c) i own neither a suv (or a car) and don't throw trash on the road so that thread wouldn't work for me; d) everytime I see one of these morons on the street or in the park doing what I described it's one more dumbarsed thing I need to worry about while riding, as if the infestation of pedicabs in Manhattan, delivery men, lance wannabes, taxi drivers, towncars, clueless tourist from Iowa, etc etc wasn't already enough.

God I love this town!

Please preach elsewhere friend. Why not start your "SUV driving roadies who throw trash out their window suck" thread?

yea...op...what did you think youd achieve with this? youre not going to all the sudden keep everybody from doing that (btw i agree with your point, but this is still an unnecessary thread)

in response to your points...a)...yea, you can, but you don't have to, b) you'll break up that monotony briefly, but you're just starting a whole new kind of it by whining to a crowd that doesn't want to listen, c) congratulations and thank you for being considerate, d) i'm sure you can deal with this one more thing if you're miraculously dealing with all these other hellish parts that come with the package of biking in nyc, at least its only 3 or 4 of them and not every other

please don't preach what has no point or potentially beneficial end

Im replying to this thread from my i phone whilst riding BRakeLESS because i couldnt wait to get home. Great filler thread. in a week there will be a thread that says "Texting while riding brakeless for beginners, good / bad?". Honestly evertime i try to find bike related info via google, my first 4 links are bikeforums, with some idiot asking a question, a dozen people flaming him, one person standing up for him and then someone who changes the topic into another argument. where are the good bike forums? if you know hook a brother up with a pm or somethin. yes my post is just as pointless. i know
