Yesterday I went for a ride with no particular route in mind. I ended up getting semi lost--I just knew roughly what area of town I was in and what direction I'd have to go to get home--and found myself on a mysterious road. It was lined with forest on both sides and the atmosphere was just perfect. And I swear I coasted downhill going both directions on it.
When I went back there today it was gone.

Okay, so it wasn't gone, and I did pedal some, but I enjoyed myself immensely yesterday and felt like sharing.

You need to tell the whole truth. What happened just before you found this road? Was there an interesting guy dressed in red, Rod Serling or did you eat some mushrooms you found beside the road?

Come to think of it...
Actually, this road isn't so mysterious. It's located just off the coast of Florida between Miami and Bermuda. Luckily you made it back. Most of those who ride this road never return.

Datura - no doubt - Datura Strammonium. Jimson Weed - a true hallucinogenic. Say 'Hi' to Alice and the Cheshire Cat.
Is your bike still okay? For almost certainly you were hit by a cager and found yourself in that perfect bike ride in the afterlife. Only you came back to us. :)
Did you run in to Mr.s Todd? I hear she knows of some pretty amazing shortcuts. Just be carefull of those trees, I hear they like to snatch hats and I would assume helmets as well!
(If any of you get that reference, then kudos to you, it's one of my favorite stories)

Done the same thing a few times even in a town where I've lived for more than 30 years. When I quit hammering on nearly every ride and started just riding around for pleasure sometimes, poking down tree-lined streets and small old subdivisions from the '40s through the '60s, I found lots of interesting neighborhoods. We ended up buying a house in one of them.

I just found a neat trail for my hybrid. It winds down through a forest - into a very large swamp. It looks like prime grounds for mushrooms - which I do hunt. Edibles that is. Not the ones that change the wallpaper - but I know where they are.
