Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Pedals

I ride some cheap shimano clipless pedals and mountain bike shoes. Whenever im sprinting or sometimes even trackstanding the float drives me crazy. I can move all over the place. I tried replacing the cleats(the old ones were trashed) and it didnt help. Whats a good clipless pedal that doesnt cost a fortune that solve this problem. If its a road pedal i'll need new shoes. If its a platform pedal, i'll still need new shoes. whats my best bet?

are your shoes spd-comaptible? if so, maybe you should try some eggbeaters... that way you don't have to get new shoes.

Plain Jane Eggbeaters have a lot of float. If you really want to lock em down, get a pair of EggBeater Mallets. Candy C's are a good compromise.

you can rotate the cleat on eggbeaters for much less float. mallets have the same engagement and thus the same float; they're just a bit trickier getting in and out of due to the platform. i do notice mallets to be much stiffer and more responsive though, probably due to the larger contact surface.

i think you should consider some eggbeaters/candy sl's/mallets though. i love my eggbeaters.

I got plain 1st gen. EggBeaters, which are great but the bearings won't last long. Not a biggie, though, as they can be rebuilt easily
