Training & Nutrition - A Little Bragging - ( I Deserve It)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As some of you know, I am studying for the ACE personal trainer certification.

So, I have been doing a couple of the "testing and evaluation" tests on myself for practice.

Bench Press: Scored Excellent in age group (56-65, I am 64), but also scored "Excellent" for the 28-35 age group.

Pushups: Scored at the 100% level for my age group (60-69) but also scored at 100% for the 30-39 age group.

OTOH, I pushed it real hard on my morning ride, using power rather than cadence to get over a small hill real fast, and likely caused an exacerbation of my occasional acute bursitis in my left hip!

Sigh!

You can't win them all!

Cool ... so, out of curiosity what are the benchmarks for each age group?

Well, you would have to understand the standardized YMCA tests:

1. Bench Press - (males) using an 80 pound bar and weights, and a metronome at 60 BPM, how many bench presses can you do before either falling behind on the beat (30 up and downs per minute) or ending in failure.

Age:

56-65 - 41 BP's for "Excellent (my score - 100%)

26-35 - The same 41 BP's will give you 90%, also rated as excellent

2. Pushups (males)

Going to exhaustion, how many PU's can you do, hitting someone's fist on the floor with your chest, resting only while fully extended. (my score was 30 pu's - and that was immediately after doing the bench press test)

AGE:

60-69 - 18 pu's - Excellent

30-39 - 30 pu's - Excellent

Congrats Denver, I doubt that I could score 100% for the 60-69 age group, at age 40. I work out furiously, but I still feel like a wet rag most. Best -
