This mess is relatively new to my town but it's apparently growing fast.

I'll give a pass to anyone under the age of 21, but seriously??

Quite common here in central Florida. Usually mid 80's to mid 90's rides with big wheels and matching paint schemes on the rims. 99% are driven by blacks in their mid 20's to 30's. Has to be some chameleon paint scheme or something just as gaudy. Some dashboards carry over the theme throughout the interior as well. I guess they have nothing better to spend money on that they will never get back. The biggest thing they HAVE to have though is the wheel size in big numbers along the side somewhere. You will see something like 24" cause you know bigger is better.

the bad side: when they hit your car, their bumper is going to end up in your face
the good side: no way they can go fast enough without flipping over.

Your description of the cars is exactly what I've seen in Greenville - Makes absolutely no sense.

Surely because of safety, communities should be able to get this crap off our streets?

doesn't really stop people from driving mega sized SUVs that have bumpers that would plow into your wind shield.

People in Fl LOVE their big wheels
Rednecks to Gangsters....Big Wheels rule...

In Riviera those ballermobiles are everywhere !
Here, they go for super hero or cereal box motif.

Unless those SUV's have been modified, it's not the same thing. Modifying cars like described above is my issue.

Ok, so before you try to label me Fuddley Duddley, take a look at this:

rent to roll (http://www.rentnrollstl.com/)

These clowns are paying ridiculous prices to roll around town in cars that belong in the circus.

My Greenville now has a rent to roll :(

So how big is the emergency spare tire? Will it get you home-y, or leave you stranded?

It's a concept apparently started in the Soviet Union by modifying a Trabant. ;)

Of course, being a good socialist car owner, they opted for the plain steel wheels and tractor tires. ;)

I'm with you, Lamplight. We ride the Bike Fridays of cars and wheels.

Imagine the extra weight,.... the 4 wheels plus spare on a car that averaged 12 miles to gallon to begin with,....

"Look at me, I'm a bananabrain."

Actually, I did own a Trabant when I was stationed in Germany. I bought it for a carton of American Marlboro's ;) IT was slow, and left a cloud of blue smoke where ever I went (2 cycle engine), but would always start, even in the worst German winter weather.

they are fairly common back in alabama to, but I thought the cereal boxes and trix rabbit were truly limited to there, just due to the lack of sense of they made.

It's most certainly a fad. Time will eventually make fools of us all.

Look at how dated and out of place Escalades with spinners look, or 1964 Impalas with 13" Daytons.

That's practical at least. if you get bushwhacked you can tip it over and use it to shoot from behind. If you're rollin' with yer crew and there's any action you can circle them together.
