Introductions - hello from Boston!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hey everyone, greeting from the good city of Boston.
I wanted to join up with a forum to get some tips and advice with my bike. I've been riding all my life but only this year have i had a really great passion for it. I ride a republic road bike on fixie and use it for commuting and joy rides.

Hi killerfixie,
Welcome to the Forums. My Introduction to the Forums, posted 7-14-08, was "Hello to These Forums from Boston." I'm a year round commuter from Kenmore Square to Norwood, and an occasional centurian. I train all around the metro Boston area. I think you'll find there is a pretty large and vocal Boston and Mass. contingent on the Forums. Where are you from and where do you ride?

Thanks for the welcome!
Im originally from Miami Florida and Bozeman Montana but i spent my highschool years here in boston. I moved from Milwaukee WI about a year ago. I started out near fenway but have since moved to mission hill and now im moving to Jamaica Plain. It seems like theres a huge community of bike enthusiasts in the city, im hoping to see more of it here in the forums. Im a commuter more then anything else though i love to just ride when its nice out. My ride usually consists of riding from mission hill to north sommerville about 4 times a week and otherwise just to and from work. I've recently started riding down into fort point.
What are you riding?

I have a nice Bridgestone RB-1 road bike bought around 1991, that I try to keep as pristine a possible, and a Cannondale F800 mountain bike as beater and back-up that I bought used from my bike shop (Back Bay Bikes). I use studded tires on the mb in the winter.
Do you get out of the city much? Did you know you can take your bike on the commuter rail at selected times, including the entire weekend, and get outta town quickly? If interested, PM me and I'll send you my previously posted compendium of where to go.

when i get out of the city its usually WAY out of the city, like northern mass or the cape/provincetown area. i used to take my bike alot on the commuter to providence. When i get down to JP it will be nice to have the orange line there so i can take my bike on that. Im assuming you get out of the city quite a bit? how long have you been in boston?
Iv'e never actually been in back bay bikes, rode by it many many times though.

I've been here since 1977. During the nice weather rmonths, I'm usually training for a century and do loops out of Kenmore Square, up to 75 miles. For example, last week was my intended century, though I only got in 82 miles due to time and mechanical constraints. I went up to Methuen, to Lowell, Chelmsford, Acton, Maynard and back to Boston on Rte 20 via Weston and Waltham.
