I have been thinking about doing this for awhile, but I thought that I would throw it out there to see if there is enough interest for me to put some effort into getting this going. While riding with forum member timmythology, he mentioned that he would like to do the self supported metric route that I did some time. I thought it might be fun to a few members here together and enjoy the ride as a group. The ride I have in mind is a 62 mile metric century. It would start and end in Albany Oregon, and includes portions of 4 counties. The route has about 1700 of elevation with only one or two hills that might be a problem for some riders. I have two stops at parks that have water and store to get water for a third stop. I am still looking for another option for that though. This would NOT be a supported ride. so riders would need to be prepared for things like flats, food and such. I might be able to talk my wife into meeting us at one of the parks with food if we can plan this out right. So, any takers? I am doing this ride August 1, 2009 regardless if anyone comes or not, but a few fellow Clydes going would be more then welcome!!!! :thumb:

I wish I had that kind of stamina and then again I'm still on the Idaho border.

Roll fast, roll strong, just roll.

I'm not ready for a metric yet, I am signed up for the 40 on the 9th. My plan atm is to ride the metric peach in sept.

Like I already said, I want to go.

IT may be tuff trying to pace you though:) Also would be a good warm up for the cover bridge ride.
If no others have interest just give me a call, or pm with details.

When you are ready, I'll take you on the ride. It might be a good warm up for the Peach since it has less hills.:)

I was hoping you still wanted to go. :) I'll contact you later with the details. Maybe Jane would like to go too?

I might be interested. Do you have a link to the route? I'm not a big fan of large / busy roads...

When do you think you would do this? I might be able to try it. I have an old Mongoose '91 MTB with road tires. My wife and I did 49 miles on Sunday. I think I could do it.

Here is a LINK (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/310840) to the route. There are two busier road on the route. One is One is HWY 99W, but the shoulder is wide enough to ride 2 bikes side by side. The other is Independence HWY, but once you get above Camp Adair road, the traffic is very light. The 99 section is only a few miles and both are much quieter on a Saturday morning. All other sections through town are on bike paths.

I have this planned for Aug. 1st. I am planning on using it as a training ride for the covered bridge tour for the following weekend.

As a side note, timmythology had to bow out do to other obligations.

What route is that you are taking north of Lewisburg and parallel to 99?

We rode Pettibone to Lewisburg and North on 99 to Suver then north on old 99. I agree 99 is busy, but plenty wide shoulders.

I just realize I'm riding in the BIKE MS 2009 Oregon on Aug 1 & 2.

Maybe some other time Hill-Pumper

Thank you for the offer.

So at this point should we start a census on which week end for an all clyde ride in September?

It sounds like September may get a larger turnout. The route looks fun, what is the intended pace / speed (since this a group ride)?

My avg seems to be in the 13.7 range, this was for the strawberry century, stp, and other rides. This is my over all avg, at the end.

September is hard month for me, but I'll see what I can do. The only weekend That I know that I have free at this point is Labor Day weekend. What ever day we choose, we must check to make sure that the ferry is running, because that is part of the planned route. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so a Saturday or Sunday ride will work, with Saturday being my best choice. I know that a holiday weekend might be planned already, but I thought that I would at least throw it out there.

As far as pace, we will need to decide how we want to do this. We can make it a no drop ride, or we can hand out maps with directions and have everyone go at their own pace.

Greg_R

I've been running at ~16mph average on my fairly flat commute (8mi each way) and am not pushing it too hard. I can roll along on the flats but the hills are still killing me. It's been over a month since my last longer distance ride so I'm not sure what my pace would be for a century right now. I am OK with either method (no drop or ride at our own pace).

This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, hopefully we can find a time where at least a few of us can meet up and ride!

Anyone have a date that works for them? I am like TC and looking at doing the Peach Century or metric, so that takes out the last weekend of September. Also, would the last weekend of August work?

Hello:)
I am also planning on doing the peach. Should we just do the metric as a group? We could even try and color coordinate:)
I can do any weekend, other than the first weekend in Aug.

I have to work that day... (And I have no way to get to Albany)

I've been thinking of a Full Century Clyde ride in the Washington/Multnomah/Clark (Wa)/and Clackamas Counties. I'm thinking sometime in October/Early November.

Here's a link to the Route I'm planning on...

OK, just getting some input here to see if there is still any interest. I have a couple of other thoughts too. I can always cut the route down to a 40 miler or so if need be. Another is that we could all just do the Peach together as a group. We could still do both if everybody wanted too, or I am willing to take people individually if they like also. Tim has said he could do the Saturday on Labor Day weekend, so that is open to anybody else who wants to join in. As far as color coordinating for the Peach, I think we could all just buy cheap little stick horses, cut down the stick and zip tie them to our handle bars. That way we would be a true Clydesdale herd.:innocent:

I like the clyde on a stick thing, better than a shirt.
I can do the sat on labor day, and will be doing the peach. so just tell me when and where to show up:)

A 40 miler would be a good training ride for the century. Late August onward is the best time for me in terms of weekends.

How does September 5th work for everyone? I am thinking meeting in Albany at about 9:00 AM. I am working on routes from 40 to 47 miles, just sorting out which ones would be the safest, most scenic at this point for all those who attend. Also, any friends that might like to go, bring them along too. :thumb:

Hill-Pumper how did your ride go on Saturday ? Did you complete the 62 miler ?

I actually did 2 rides on Saturday. I did a 35 mile loop with my cross bike and came home, switched to my road bike and did the same 35 mile loop. So, 70 miles total with about 2200 feet of climbing. It was more of a training ride to get me ready for this weekends century ride on the Covered Bridge tour. By the way, how did the MS 150 go?

HelpMeRhonda
08-04-09, 09:59 AM
It went well. Was able to complete the century. I was very happy considering my longest ride until then was 50 miles (and only once). I learned a couple very important lessons. Lesson #1. I felt really good and got over confident I could finish at the 80 mile mark. I blitzed through a rest stop without really taking enough time, didn't eat or drink anything. Just filled up my bottles and left. It was upper 90s by then. What a mistake. I went from feeling great to bonking. But I was able to recover and limp in to finish. Lesson #2. I can't believe how hungry I've been the last couple days. I guess just replenishing what I lost.

Good luck this weekend. I'm really considering trying to ride the peach with you guys. It looks like it covers much of the same roads (area) as the MS150.

Hey TC, I posted an update that is on page 2 now, so I'll re post it here.

I have kind of let this slide a little, but September 5th is getting closer, and I need some input for those who wish to go on this ride. We have plenty of space left and would love to have anyone else who would like to come join us. Friends and family welcome to join in of course. I have a proposed route of 41.5 mile with 2 rest stops planned. There is 585 feet of climbing, and Mrs. Hill-Pumper has said that she is willing to run support if needed.
HERE (http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/or/albany/177125091499421282) is a link to the route that I have chosen, but I can change it if we would like to do more mileage (or hills). So, any thoughts/input would be appreciated.

Here is the other proposed information to date.

Date: September 5, 2009
Place: Albany, Oregon K-Mart parking lot behind the old gas station
Time: 9:00 AM

So, if there is any other questions I need to address, let me know.:)
