Pour out a bit of water (ice expands) from your 2'nd water bottle and throw the bottle in the freezer night before..

Enjoy.

Standard practice for me, and a good idea.

In the summer in Texas you don't bother filling the second bottle with ice because it will still be hot by the time you get to it.

Use a polar bottle, that'll buy you extra time.
Usually I try to pass by city parks with water fountains to refill on cold water.
Another thing that helps if it's a dry heat, soak a skullcap and your jersey in water, squeeze out the excess then wear it. It'll get downright chilly as the wind evaporates the water.

I do this. When I actually plan ahead enough to remember. Most often I'm rolling out the garage, realize my water bottles are empty, and have to fill them from the garden hose. Tasty!

i shun freezing water bottles because of supposed health hazards when the plastic can leach out into the water when frozen. i don't know if this is myth or not, but i am deferring for now. i've seen it in legitamate discussion >> just putting it out there. you can make your own conclusions as to truth....

Use a Camelbak, it really keeps the water cool! I am not sure what temperatures you guys are experiencing, but with 30 degrees celcius here, it's quite warm. You can put lots of ice in with just a bit of water, and when it melts, it'll be a really cold fluid.

The camelback, or any backpack seems to work best for me. When I go for short rides and use water bottles I am not too concerned about ice cold water. The thing that has to be ice cold for me is any sport drink I bring along, If it's not cold, it seems to sweet to drink.

I go a fair ways from water, services. Even in the pack, by afternoon it's warm.

I pour a bit from the pre-bottled waters and freeze them too sometimes. \ An idea for the polymer leachate theorists.

I don't bother with chilling or freezing routine. I find warm water to be just as refreshing on a hot day as cold. In fact I find I drain warm water bottles faster than cold.

Same here - I just need wet. As long it hydrates me, I'm good.

Yup, I learned years ago that it just isn't worth the hassle and got used to drinking warm water.

Good idea for hot days - throw some ice water on your chamois...

Polar bottles do the trick for me.

Ice bottles in freezer the day before; wet a bandana and wrap it around your neck. Wet your cycling cap. Dump some water on your jersey.
Have cycled at 100+ degrees in Tucson, AZ for the past 26 years (warmest: 117!) . . . does it help? Yup! Is it perfect? Nope!
Better idea yet: we are spending this summer in Duluth, MN. Rode tandem this morning at 11 a.m. and had to wear arm warmers! Cool!

While you're at it, why not just throw your shorts into the freezer the day before? :D

The faster you go the more the breeze cools you off. :)

Damn, I'm actually going to try that one. Hopefully, the boys can deal with the initial shock!
