I got the email with my official photos (http://tourphotos.exposuremanager.com/g/tbp_2009_3348). As a photographer who has sold some work, I actually think these prices are somewhat reasonable. I am considering buying a high-res digital file of one so that I can do my own printing. I can print on rag or canvas in my pigment printer.

Are you going to buy anything? If you looked at mine, which one do you like best?

First or second.
I am not buying mine. I looked fat as all hell in the first one and bleh in the second one.
I'm going with an optical illusion as my excuse. I have gained 5 lbs during my divorce but still.

Aw heck... here are my lovely photos.

I went with the second one. I am a little dissapointed with the level of jpeg compression for a "full size" file. I notice I have a gut in mine too. Not sure where that came from...

Well, at least I have an idea of who to look for know, if we ever get a chance to meet up.

Hunh, DJ, you're right -- their camera gave you a gut which you don't have. Too bad.

My wife and I bought 10 post cards of our photo last year and sent it to all our family because it looked so great. This year, not so great. I only got one photo, and I wasn't looking at the camera at the time, darnit. Also, I've learned to stand up on the pedals during these photo sessions... http://tourphotos.exposuremanager.com/p/tbp_2009_299/tbp_497941

That's a good one. I will keep that trick in mind for next year.

Sweet. I will stand the next time.
When I looked at mine earlier and I was perplexed where that gut came from. Bloated? :p

Hmmm, DJ, not sure you're looking healthy enough in those photos to be climbing Mt. Evans on Sunday and Trail Ridge Road (from Loveland) on Tuesday. Better stay home and take care of yourself. ;)

Nice sniz. You can tell you were having fun on that ride.

BTW, I am back in town, so give me a shout if you need your knee warmers before we get together.

I might get mine, we'll see. My jersey was a little too tight, and made tighter by all the stuff I was carrying. But I don't have any pics of myself on my Poprad, so I'll likely get it.

Meh. I'll NEVER buy any photos from that company.

They pissed me off last year when a car insisted on passing right when we were getting to the photo area... I circled back to get a better shot and they said "Sorry, our equipment is down right now"

Yours looks decent. At least you do not look like you are carrying quadruplets.

NONE of you look fat or even bloaty~ Seriously, you climbed some mountains from what I can see, no way you're outta shape! Hell, if you look fat, I look like an elephant

No, don't, then I'll look like 2 elephants. We have too many pretty people already.

But seriously...I teach high school in the inner city/urban area of Hollywood. Hollywood is not all rich white kids, there are very few actually and they're fit and in private schools :). Most of the people in LA are out of shape (like me) but when you get further west where there is money, ocean, and ummm more superficiality (don't hate me), you see the pretty bodies of LA. See, live in the hood like me and if you're outta shape, you'll fit right in :)

clydesdale, you look fine, but they blew the highlights in all the clouds on your photo. It probably won't print well, just in case you are planning on buying it.

valygrl so you saw my fat butt huffing and blowing up from george town to the top of loveland pass. You look awsome in your photo not one ounce of suffering in that pic of yours.

So, if anyone else is considering buying the digital master, here are my thoughts on the value for $75.

First, I have blown more money on stupider things, so take that in context.

I think the photo is over-compressed for the money. They shoot with a pretty high JPEG compression. Maybe it is just that I am used to shooting in RAW, but I think they have a responsibility to shoot in higher quality for the money they charge, even if it is JPEG.

Also, I should have shaved. Their compression and my stubbly face and legs with sunscreen did some strange patterning on my skin. I was able to adjust it away in Adobe Lightroom though. I didn't do any Photoshop detailing, just adjustment of vibrance and saturations.

Finally, at least in the larger version, I can tell that my "gut" is my open jersey (and that is the story I am sticking with).

Overall, I will forget the price and be glad to have the photo, since this was my first Triple. Not sure I would buy again, unless it was a great shot.

Here is the shot at a larger size.

Possibly more in for male cyclists who have to get up at a god awful hour to ride early events in the mountains.

Yeah, but add that shimmering sunscreen look and it is just bad.

As for the legs...

I am not sure I am cut out for shaving the legs. This is the first season and I had to let it grow out because of irritation. Shaved again this week and it burns again. I look like a gorilla in bike shorts if I don't at least use clippers.

The first year I shaved it was uncomfortable for a couple months. No issues since then. Just use a sharp razor in the shower and it works like a charm.

07-27-09, 06:32 PM
DJ, thanks for the info on the shaving. I am so prone to ingrown hairs that I switched to single blade razors with swiss blades on my face and it worked like a charm. I am considering trying it on the legs too. Just a little more hesitant with all the areas to nick.

Hmm, that stuff scares me. I had to take a girlfriend to the hospital when she tried the stuff and her legs swelled up. Granted, that was 20 years ago, and it could have progressed by now.

I wonder what makes it for men? Super strength...

colorider, blame it on the backpack.

What were you carrying in there anyway? I guess I would have liked to have some layers as I got soaked, so I am a bit jealous.

It looks like more than it really was. I just had rain pants and jacket (really glad I had those since it started pouring as soon as I got to the Vail Pass rest stop and didn't let up until just before Avon), leg/arm warmers and gloves. I didn't bother with the water bladder as I wanted to keep it as light as possible on my back given the other carp I was carrying.

It took a while to find mine as I couldn't remember the last name of the person I bought the package from and her name started with 'W'. I don't mind the accentuated gut but it appears that I'm riding a unicycle or something. Maybe it's time to get a bike fit:rolleyes:
