Electric Bikes - Battery Smokes and Sparks HELP!

HELP! I just got my battery today and I charged it for 2 hours than after that I plugged it into my E-Bike's Battery Connector and sparks and smoke started to come out of the place it connected. It was a total :eek: moment. Please Help!

Something is shorting.

Pics and what kind of battery/motor system are going to be needed to help diagnose the problem.

Oh, don't plug it back in.

If it's shorting can you tell me what to fix? I don't care if there's anything advanced to do like soldering.

It sounds to me like the connection is wired backwards, so that when you plug it in you are plugging the positive end of the plug into the negative end of the receptacle.

I would double and triple check which part of the plug from the battery is positive and which part is negative (use a multimeter; put both prongs of the multimeter into the separate holes of the battery plug, with DC Volts selected -- if the number is positive, then the positive prong of the multimeter, the red one, is the positive part of the plug -- if the number is negative, then the red multimeter prong is the negative part of the plug)

Then check which part of the receptacle is positive and which part is negative (you might have to find the wiring diagram of your specific controller and figure out which wire coming from the controller is meant for positive and which one is meant for negative.)

This might be as simple as interchanging the two wires that come from your controller and go to the receptacle that you plug your battery plug into. This was a problem I had with a Goldenmotor kit when using a third-part controller. They had the same 3-prong connector, but the polarity was backwards to the controller I was using before. I found out what's positive and what's negative on the battery, but I can't check for my Bike because the controller is in like a casing and all screwed and glued shut.

What type of controller is it? I'm sure there are people on here who know the wiring of your controller.

First thing I would do is fuse the main wire from the battery, that won't solve the problem but it will help with the smoke part, and probably save the battery and other parts, maybe your hands as well.
