Finally I decided to buy an Xtra, my questions:

Is the Kickback worth the money?

Any cheaper alternatives?

Is the standard kickstand in the basic kit enough?

Is it compatible with wideloaders? (I read about problems with KickBack and footsies)

Thanks

Yes, it is worth it--to me, at least.

No, there are no cheaper alternatives. There is a more expensive one, though.

Yes, the standard kickstand is enough.

Yes, they are wideloader compatibile.

It does strike me as expensive, but I really like being able to park the bike upright. The downside is that it offers a narrower base of support, so sometimes you have to be more careful when loading. But I like it, and I use my xtracycle every day, so for me it is worth it.

I say get it but don't forget to grease the legs. Mine have seized :( so now using a regular kick stand which isn't as bad as I expected but obviously nowhere near as good as the kickback. Just got to remember to load and unload the kick stand side first. It does rule out really heavy loads though. So if you want that option definitely go the kickback. Also look for the kickback leg mod video. Really want to try that once I work out how to get these damn legs out.

For a good in depth discussion of the relative merits, cost and worth of various centerstands for the Xtracycle and Big Dummy, check this thread: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=426070

I just used the regular kickstand when I first got my Xtracycle (the kickback wasn't available back then) and it worked OK until I started carrying heavy loads. You can always buy the kickback later but if you find yourself using the footsies, don't get the kickback. I have modified the kickback to make it useable with wideloaders and heavy loads (see the xtracycle wiki site). If I carried kids or people on the Xtra, I would get the Rolling Jackass.

It's nice but I can't bring myself to buy one.....So it must not be worth it to me. It does look like it works great and would be a great convenience item!!

Already have more than five years of service on a normal, single leg kiskstand so I don't need to upgrade.

I have one installed on the Goat, and I like it. I think Val's stand has got to be better built (assuming here since I don't own his version), but I needed to save money on a kickstand and divert a larger sum elsewhere. I'm glad I have it. Don't miss the single arm stand at all.

If you are going to be hauling kids, it actually is worth it. My kids are able to climb up onto the snapdeck without toppling the bike over.
