Hi guys,

I'm planing to ride San Gabriel Mt.( basically number 2 road) about 40 to 50 miles.
Start from near by LA or Pasedena? because I have to drive back to LA.
Do you guys have suggest route?
Is there a park near by? or place for parking?

Thank you for your help. :)

You mean Angeles Crest Highway? A good place to start is in La Canada, near where it crosses the 215 freeway. You don't mention where in "LA" you are staying - that will halp.

Hum,
Thank you guys.
Some people told me this 2 is kind of dangerous.
I guess I have to ride near by Hollywood.

Does anyone know good route near by Hollywood that include some uphill as well.

Thank you guys.

The 2 isn't anymore dangerous than Sunset Blvd. In fact I think it's less dangerous. I ride from my house in Silverlake to Mt. Wilson all the time. Nichols cyn is ok for a short ride, but for sustained climbing. AC can't be beat. You should try it one weekend. You'll see quite a few cyclists up there.

+1 Whoever told you that the 2 "is kind of dangerous" will soil themselves when you show them that routeslip.

mulholland is way more dangerous than the 2.

The 2 ends in La Canada and you can park anywhere down there on side streets. There is a large street that you enter Descanso Gardens- if you park there, it's easy and lots of shaded parking.
or if you drive up the 2 just a little, you can find parking off the right side.

also, if you continue in the neighborhood from Descanso Gardens down to the Rose Bowl, you have a great loop of descending and climbing. There is a nice long climb on Chevy Chase from Glendale up to Descanso Gardens- just descend and climb back up! Or go the other way to the Rose Bowl- lots of options.
good luck!

I ride that route all the time - although I take the right turn towards the end of your route and do the climb to the Mt. Wilson observatory (at about a mile of elevation). If the skies are clear, (which is a bit rare), the views are great!

Here's my route from Hyperion and Rowena to Mt. Wilson. I have the symbols for parking and water along the route. I ride my bike because I'm too lazy to get in my car, put my bike on my rack and drive up there.

You can drive the route so you can get familiar with it in case you ever want to ride it. Park on Descanso, like RacerX said cuz it's shady. Then ride your bike the rest of the way. Roughly 38 mile round trip from La Canada and the 2 to Mt. Wilson and back.

Start as early as possible. It gets hot climbing up to Mt. Wilson. But once you turn off on Mt. Wilson rd, it gets cooler. It's 10 degrees cooler at the top. :)
