Hi, I'm about to replace my old bottom bracket and have a couple questions so I do this right..
Is there any trick to getting the cranks off? I tried using crow bar but they won't budge.
Is the bottom bracket screwed in clockwise or is it counter clockwise? I just don't want to strip anything
Third, the BB is 68x113 right?
Lastly, what's a "good" BB for an ok price? In the $30-$50 range I guess.
Thanks

You need a crank extractor to pull your cranks off. You also need a bottom bracket tool to remove the cups. One side is threaded clockwise and the other counter clockwise. These square tapered BB can be found cheap.....as low as $10 for a decent quality generic sealed cartridge... check Nashar or Performance. Shimano UN-72's or 73's are good replacements also....they're about $25.

Doh, I just ordered a 68x110 Shimano UN-73 bottom bracket but I just looked on my bike and noticed stamped on the bottom bracket LL 113 WD. What should I do? Is 113 the width or something else?

Ok, just called and switched to the 113. i hope that's right. Epinions.com lists my bike as 110 but I doubt they're info is super accurate

Good thing you didn't try too hard with the crowbar. You would've eventually damaged or broken something (part of the frame, a basement window, your elbow/wrist, etc.). As for the threads on the BB, the left side threads normally, the right (drive) side threads counter-clockwise.
