What is a good front tire for skids? Or does it even matter? I have gatorskins on the back.

It's wrong to have tires made from alligators.

I'm not sure if this question is a joke or not. I really hope it is.

I believe a front wheel skid is called a crash.
In that case, I'd recommend anything deflated, on gravel, in tram tracks or in a storm water grate. good luck.

seriously, though, what front tyre you have makes about as much difference as the phasing of saturn.

I think it's a legit question. Just last night I was searching as to whether or not it made a difference to have a grippy front if you're skidding all the time.

northsjfixed, if you are not a troll and if you ever come back again, here is some insight as to why you are getting your **** pushed in:

Your front wheel is still rolling during a skid. You only lock up your back wheel. If you did lock up your front wheel (with a brake) you would die. Probably. Front tire is inconsequential to skidding.

you need a tire studded with diamonds...

answer to OP's question: It doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter what front tire you have as long as it provides stable traction to keep you going forward in the right direction. That and if it's a full moon, you can pull off sweet skids because gravity is pulling you away from the earth. Careful though, you don't want to get snagged by the sky wizards.

Also have any of you guys considered that maybe he is doing sick sick skidz while riding backwards sitting on the handlebars? Totally legitimate question.

Even so your still locking up the back wheel not the front no matter what way your facing or riding. The only possible way this actually makes sense is if he is riding backwards and to turn around he is doing sliders. Which would involve your front tire to skid or slide along the pavement. If that's the case then any durable tire you'd use for a back tire.

I meant locking up the front wheel using the brake, obviously. Who rides backwards and skids with their feet lol ur crazy.

haha i think you guys took my wording completely wrong. i know that the front tire doesnt skid, just the back. i was just wondering what is a good tire that would help keep the front wheel spinning straight and smooth for better control so that the skid could last a little longer. i mean there must be a consensus on whats a good economy tire isnt there.

you guys were kinda mean about it but thats ok because i am new here and if you didnt understand the question then it does look like a big FAIL question.

No I think we took your wording exactly as you wrote it....

idk about you fools but when im skidding around i find its best to go tire-less on the front. way more traction. sparks are cool too.

I use a heavier gas like radon in my front tire to increase rotational mass to inch out another inch or two when I'm bustin' out the sweet skids.

still doesn't matter. How straight your wheel stays while your skidding has more to do with your riding that the front tire(unless your wheel is out of true)

What is a good front tire for skids? Or does it even matter? I have gatorskins on the back.

Use a gatorskin on the front. When you skid through the rear, move the front tire to the back and install the new tire on the front. You always want the newest tire on the front, because its the most dangerous tire to have a blowout.

It took 25 posts to get to the correct answer.
The rest of you are dumbasses for not understanding the question or supplying decent advice.

I'm not sure that all the answers were useless, one of the guys broke out a discussion about using 'heavy' gasses to inflate your tires.

Legit.

Ok, i run a Gator up front and drag a Panaracer on the back. I put on a lot of miles, ever skid around a corner and hit some gravel. Its nice to have some traction up front, try a Gran Prix 4000. Its a softer compound race tire, but Gators are my favorite. Kevlar is your friend......
