I am a regular bicycle commuter and thought it would be nice to get a tandem bicycle for myself and my wife. I found one on craigslist, but have no idea on how to assess the value and determine whether this is a good deal. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd guess $800. Make sure it fits you. That is one large frame.

If I were considering buying it, (and I have enough tandems just now, thank-you), I'd start by looking at what I'd need to change/update. At the age, there's a good chance there are significant portions of the drive train in need of repair/replacement. But maybe not. So then price all of those and add them to the cost of the bike. Then take a look at Mark Livingood's spreadsheet on estimating used tandem values (google tandem links). And the instructions that come with. Since the exact bike isn't currently available, you're stuck with guessing at something close to equivalent. You're talking the low end of the "good" range - a big step up from the department store range. My guess is that once it has the stem and saddles changed (to match the new riders), and possibly has some freshening up in the drive train, you're talking something close to $1000. But there's probably a reason they're asking $350. And it may be $650 worth of reasons. Still, likely a good deal.

Assuming its in good shape, I'd say $350 is a pretty good price. I'd imagine you can probably get it for $300.

Note that it is a very large frame, which will limit the market for it.
