While cutting off my shifter braze-ons with a sabre saw i slipped and took a 2mm chunk out of my down tube. Will my Sirrus FG steel frame be strong enough ? ALso what should i use to fill the chunk before painting?? NZ fixed

Pictures would help. WTF do people do this to their frames in the first place? Now, not only do you have the heat-affected area of the down tube (from the original braze-on installation) but also a gouge in the thinnest area of the tube. Just leave 'em alone next time, 'k?

If the gouge isn't too bad (impossible to determine without a picture), fill it with lead solder and file/sand it smooth before painting. Unlike body puttys, solder will never fall out. If you're powder coating (as your similar message in another thread suggests), use silver solder instead of lead; it has a higher melting point and power coating gets pretty hot to fuse the powder.

I fully agree now mate. Regreted it as soon as i started cutting the damn things off..
