Touring - Touring with a pacemaker

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi All,
I am curious, does anyone tour with a pacemaker? Recently, I was fitted with a pacemaker, and told I can't ride for a least a month (insert primal scream).
I was in training for a tour next fall, Santa Barbara to San Diego. Are there any changes to your normal routine??

I would imagine that it would depend on how it worked. Is it there to fire only if your HR drops below a certain point, or to keep your heart beat steady at a set rate? I imagine it might be possible with the first type. I would be concerned that a crash could damage it, and that the condition that caused you to need it might be a problem for touring. As always, have a detailed discussion with your doctor. If you don't like the answer, ask another.

The Internet is a terrible place to get medical advice. No one here knows your medical history, your situation, and I doubt there are any doctors here -- certainly none that will give you actual medical advice.
Keep talking to your cardiologist. If you need more information, talk to a specialist in sports medicine.
