Check out the third proposed rule. An additonal $50 per cycling violation to support bike lanes? Does this mean that people can't park in them, use them as turn lanes, or skateboard in them?

I love the comments. For instance:

Yet everyday I see 10 times as many cycle laws being broken than auto laws, even when I include the blinker violators.

How about when you include the speeding violators? Ehh Skippy?

I see nothing wrong with an extra $50 for bike offenders, or any offender for that matter. How about an extra $500? That would be a start.

from the article:
"If we're asking drivers to be aware of cyclists, we need cyclists to be aware of drivers."

in Oregon all traffic offenders have an extra $40 or $50 tacked on their fine for 'traffic safety improvements'

In other news the Guv vetoes legislation that would have paved the way for tolls on freeway bridges

Indeed - A good friend of mine has met the guy. Hes a fellow cyclist, but seems to be fairly ignorant of the majority of cyclists in town. As a Boise resident it just seems like a really silly idea.

Having lived in Idaho for the last thirty years, I have serious doubts that this will get any further. I oppose it because it is discriminatory.

There is also a proposal by the City of Boise's Bicycle Safety Reponse Team (commissioned by Mayor Bieter as a result of the three recent tragic cyclist deaths here) to reduce bicycle ordinance violations from criminal misdemeanors to simple infractions. I am on the Sounding Board to review this team's proposals and will oppose it because it also is discriminatory. If we cyclists are going to share the road with motorists and improve the mutual respect and caution we show toward each other, then we need to pony up and share the same responsibilties as well. This one will get interesting as the "something-for-nothing" crowd who want to treat cyclists like victims and special needs children chimes in.
