Hey guys,

I'm enjoying my new Trek 6500 disc but noticed something that made me wonder. It seems that some of the Trek models (like the 6500) have the cables running across the top of the top bar, but other models (like the 9 series) have them underneath.

Any idea why they run them on top for some models?

Dunno, but those cables are gonna scratch the hell out of your frame.... trust me, my 4500 is all bad. If you care you can run cable housing but if it's bare, it will happen eventually.

If you use bull-bar type bike car racks, cables mounted at the bottom of the tubes gets sandwiched between the rack bars and the frame tubes... and they cut-into the paint job. Maybe they did it for that, who knows...

You could always use cable spacer donuts to protect the frame...

Mine came stock with 4 of those on each of the 3 cables



Papabear050 if your 4500 top bar is scrathed you must be doing somthin to make it happen or your spacers are gone. I own 3 treks with wires like that and one is 3 years old and not a scratch on it from the wires and all 3 see trails every other day.
