Hi there,

I am currently planning an attempt to cycle from North to South India - about 3500kms. We are all working and need to get back to our jobs so can only take a month...that means we are going to need to average about 125kms a day.

We are all physically fit and capable but are lacking in experience of cycling around India. I have spent a lot of time in India - but not by bike!

My first question is - has anyone ever done this?

Ideally we'd like to find a few people who are happy to answer some questions about their travels and experiences whilst cycling through India. The ride will be in support of an Indian charity that I have done a lot of work for, they help slum children in Mumbai to find a new start in life by using sports as a way of educating them. www.magicbusindia.org

If anyone thinks they may be able to help out please email or reply to this thread.

Many thanks in advance,

Ben

Hi Ben,
There are 30 journals for biking around India on www.crazyguyonabike.com that may be of help to you. From the main page, go to Journals by Locale and click on Asia, then India. There are several by Brits, so you may be able to contact them locally for more info. Given the road conditions and chaotic traffic, 125km a day might be a stretch. You may want to pick just a portion of the country. Have a wonderful trip.
Cheers.

Hey Ben,
Have you check out mrpumpy? google that with bike tour. He rode from Chennai to Goa, so not your route but he has some thoughts on biking in India.
I live in Chennai, so I can't speak for the rest of India. Here, it is a bit insane at times, but the thing about biking here is that people are used to seeing EVERYTHING on the road, and I mean everything.
You are going to have a blast! Happy pedaling. If you need a place to crash in Chennai I'm on warmshowers.
