It appears rather simple. Done with Flash and uses the same ten(?) images with a timer sequence. Once the imaging was done probably no more than an hour to build.

My roomate had a good one too. It was a binary desk clock. There were 6 columns of LEDs to represent HH:MM:SS. Each LED was a 1,2,4, or 8. Took a little getting used to, but after a while, reasonable easy to read. As for originality, though, I think it bows down before the pencil clock. :D
