Gina and I were on the tandem this Sunday. We start at the leaky fountain, head inland then rest at the coast after 30 or 40 miles depending on our target distance for that day. That leaves a short 12 mile return, usually with a tailwind and a cool coastal breeze for MOST of the return.
On Sunday, we are about 4 miles from the end of our ride and the leaky fountain. Sure enough PSSSSHHHHH! Flat tire! Right in the hot section of the trail:mad:...Too hot to stand around and think about it. Small hole in the tire. Shift gears to outter rings, whip out spare tube, whip out dollar bill as boot, remove wheel, tube, tire, boot tire, whip out frame pump from velcor straps, install tube, verify boot location, install tire, locate label, pump itty bitty air in tube, pinch tire on left side to verify tube not pinched, do the same for the right side, spin wheel to verify proper bead seating, place wheel back on tandem, screw on little nut to valve, install pump again, pump to proper pressure, well close :p...reconnect V brakes, spin cranks to verify chain is seated and proper, remount tandem. Off we go!:thumb:
Only took about 4 or 5 mintues tops from dismount to on the road again! Boy can one move fast when one does not care to bake in the sun!:D
